RE: block construction - Rob Tucker - 03-12-2011

There are several on the east side including mine in Pahoa VIllage. I built mine myself and at time of final (still lacking some finishes like tile) I was at about $65 psf. Subdivisions? Hamakua Coast, Kapoho area, Vacationland, Fern Acres, HPP.

laniA - pretty easy to compute materials costs:

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202092854/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

figure $1 per inch of wall for the rebar, and figuring $3.50/cu ft for the concrete, and 3 cubic feet of concrete to fill the hollow spaces in one linear foot of wall... the reinforcement would (add) cost about $25 per foot of solid wall in materials - if your house has 160' of reinforced walls, that's $4K in materials, I'd hate to think what a GC would charge to do it for you...
