These are boy goats, with their wo-hoolies banded this week..... Half nubian but the other half of each one is different and i don't remember. Yikes...
They are sooo much fun!

Hi Pam, I was wondering how your goats are doing? I am interested in getting goats. Do you have any advise? I have never had a goat before. Are they high maintainence?

I know they are cute as heck now, but what are your plans for their adulthood? They won't be milkers, so . . . ?
Goats eat everything and I've seen them go right through fences. I'm in Mexico and when I drove up to a friend's ranch the other day, the billy jumped out of the house through the kitchen window.

What do the goats do or bring to your property? I was just curious. We've been thinking about a couple of hens for when we move over... We're finally coming to see our place in Eden Roc in May!! Maybe we'll get to meet you finally!

I think April pretty much hit the nail on the head when she said, "I know they are cute as heck now, but what are your plans for their adulthood?" That is sooooo true they will drive you nutS!!!!! Not to mention, you now have to watch where you step!
Plus they probably would try to eat hens too!
I suggest if you want property pets, get a goose. They are loving to owners, but at the same time make great watchdogs(they will chase strangers) too.

You know you aren't supposed to name the meat!
I would like to say a good word for goats: they are wonderful for milk, cheese and yogurt and they keep brush down very well. I never had to mow my field or cut down fir trees and they kept the poison oak to a minimum. Of course, I could never have ornamental plants or roses and they even plowed through my garden fence on several occasions and ate other stuff I didn't want them to.
Babies are absolutely darling, though.

Actually, John is on track. These are meat goats. They are our opportunity to learn to care for goats. Once we have it down, we move on to steer.
We are in slow process of fencing in a 2 acre area for our goat herd, including large grassy area and a boundary on one side of ohia, wiwi, hapuu and other succulent leaf producing foragable material.
To the ranch, they bring a future source of both food and income. There is a rather large demand for goat meat in the Phillippino population.
By the way, though they are getting bigger now, they are still lovable. They jump and climb over me as I sit on a bale of hay in their current quarters and love to eat banana leaves from my hands.They try to suck my fingers; I imagine they are remembering those nice warm bottles I used to give them.
It's all good!!!!!

If you are raising meat goats, you ought to look into Boers. They are a S. African breed developed specifically for meat as compared to Nubian that would be considered a milk/meat breed. Boers a famed for being fastest from birth to fat and juicy.

Sorry April, I didn't know. I love goat meat, I had it for lunch/dinner almost every day when I was in Fiji. I just made a huge batch of Goat Curry the other day. I buy all the goat cheese I can at Island Naturals and at the Hilo Framers Market when I am in Puna! My wife laughs at me when I start taking out the cooler!
