RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - StillHope - 09-27-2011 Dear Building Department! Returning the favor: here's a manual COMMON SENSE virus. Please delete all stupid files. Caution:common sense required. If you don't have one, please upgrade to our automatic version. RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - Carey - 09-27-2011 UMM...Hate to be the bearer of TRUE tidings with all of this laughing... Really wish some of the thread posters would bother reading the whole posts before sending mis-informed answers...and for ya'all that believed the mis-information....well.... did you check Snopes for the "here you have" virus like you told others to? Whalesong was referring to the "Here you have it" virus, which is a REAL VIRUS, mdd mistakenly used the "life is beautiful" powerpoint for his snopes search. For the Snopes.com on the "here you have" virus: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/hereyouhave.asp ADDED: Even if you KNOW who is sending you an email...it may not really be from them...even very secure sites like the UHH computer security group has been hacked into... so it is best to treat all emails with a huge dose of caution.... RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - missydog1 - 09-27-2011 Thank you, Carey and whalesong! I will be careful of this one thanks to you guys. [ ![]() RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - PaulW - 09-27-2011 Thank you for your concern but what is being posted here is the same old chain email warning about this or that virus (the name is unimportant) that will arrive in your inbox and magically delete or your files if you open it. Such a virus does not exist. Did YOU read the Snopes article? The person would have to open a pdf and then agree to download a screensaver before this specific malware was installed. The SEND IT TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW IMMEDIATELY is always a dead giveaway. It's just a chain email. People who forward these things on are well-intentioned but if everyone did it then the internet would soon be completely clogged with email warnings. Rule of thumb: If it says you should pass it on, then don't. RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - Carey - 09-27-2011 Yes, I DID read the article And the files were either .pdf or .wmv One of the best ways of really reducing the excess email warnings are to: Have a separate email for more spammy type things like rewards sign ups Not to participate in chain emails... most of my friends know that I probably will not open a chain & never forward them ( DH is on the other view & relishes sending on all of the email chains...) Be aware that some will send false snopes & such - check every thing.... RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - mdd7000 - 09-27-2011 It is a fake email and a fake virus. It is simply a chain email special. None of the companies listed in the original posting by whalesong have a single word about this fake virus. Please go and check out the sites mentioned: Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL. Nor does Microsoft, Symantec, Norton, AVG, etc. have ANYTHING to say about this "imminent" threat. RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - Carey - 09-27-2011 Not a fake virus, but the emails has claims are over cautious This is from YAHOO (see they DO have something to say!): http://news.yahoo.com/tries-recapture-computer-worm-threats-past.html Urban Legend"Analysis: These warnings contain a mixture of true and false information. Antivirus experts confirm there is an actual computer virus (or "worm," more properly) dubbed "Here You Have" because it downloads itself via links in emails with that title... What it does do, should your PC become infected, is attempt to disable your antivirus protection and send copies of the email to everyone it finds in your address book." This type of worm is the way you get an email from someone you know that was not sent by that individual.... hence my caution to check everything... something I am known to do (BTW - I am sure few individuals would ever have access to all of the corporate communications from yahoo, hotmail, AOL, microsoft, Symantec, Norton, AVG, etc. to KNOW that they have to say about ANYTHING...& I am not one that would say I do...) RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - KeaauRich - 09-27-2011 quote: Cat, I think you got the old version of this virus. The current version says "Please wait eight to ten weeks and then delete all the files on your hard disk yourself. Then, if for some reason you haven't lost the original email, forward it to everyone you know (after ensuring that your cesspool has been properly finaled...)" RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - Kapohocat - 09-28-2011 quote: I think the old version is still in effect. The hackers have not approved the new version unlike their predecessors where viruses spread like wildfire, the newest version is taking 3 years to approve. RE: Email Virus Alert. HERE YOU HAVE IT- DON'T OPEN IT - KeaauRich - 09-28-2011 quote: ...and thank God the Virus Impact fee was voted down. |
