RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - candyman - 11-03-2011 Whitey nice back story/recap. I would very much like to attend a Board meeting but I am so confused. The HSCA marquee lists one date, the HSCA website lists another, the new office staff doesn't have a clue, the HSCA calendar lists yet another date. Do you know where one can obtain current, accurate and appropriate information? RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - DanielP - 11-03-2011 Whitey, Thanks for the history lesson. I was not aware. Very sad. A signed petition is a possibility, but in light of what you are saying, perhaps not fruitful. This is classic small town politics. I, personally, would be looking to relocate, or....honk. Dan RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - critterlover - 11-03-2011 @DanP, Yep, logical conclusion. We have been planning to do the first and should we find ourselves in need of driving Papio -- for safety sake, we'd HONK. Remember the olden days when you are on a two way road and approaching a curve you had to honk your horn? It was the law in California long after it became obsolete. It was a HONK for safety! So for safety sake, a HONK seems in order. Followed quickly by a vote on January 21, 2012. There will be 10 candidates to choose from. Question Authority! RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - DanielP - 11-03-2011 Have the candidates voiced their positions on removing the speed bumps? RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - Guest - 11-03-2011 I too did not realize the extent of the BS. Honking seems simple and might be very effective. Where can I find out who is running for the board and what is the appropriate way to contact them? When is the president up for reelection? RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - Whitey - 11-03-2011 quote: Yes candyman, I feel your confusion! Another good question - Is the swimming pool open or closed? The office has always been the best place to get accurate information. However, with new staff who knows now. The website has proven to be behind the times at best. There is a facebook page called Da ROC that some members are posting on. It appears meetings are being announced there by members who are attending meetings and trying to keep the members informed. The next regular Board meeting was announced at the last Board meeting. It is supposed to be November 10th at 6pm at the Honu park. I haven't heard anything different, so I'll be there. Come on down! RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - Whitey - 11-03-2011 quote: Yes, the announcement of candidates is being kept pretty quiet. The nominations were due in to the office on September 30th. The elections committee finally met a month later. This next Board meeting should include some information. The mid-year packet (mailed out in September)included a small pre-campaign announcement by the President that she, the current Secretary, and another Papio St. owner would be seeking election to the Board. Yes, a plug for 3 candidates paid for by association monies. Yes, all three are pro-speed bumps. I heard that at the Election Committee meeting they were verifying 10 candidate nominations. Still no indication of who the candidates are. Your best bet would be to ask the office. They may be able to disclose this apparent closely held secret. In the past, there has been an opportunity to "Meet the Candidates" at a forum organized by the Community Relations Committee. Don't know if that will be happening this year, but I sure hope so. Next Board Meeting - Thursday November 10th 6pm at Honu park. ยป Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex... It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction. - Albert Einstein RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - critterlover - 11-03-2011 @afwjam, In the past, the candidates who were nominated were made known rather quickly after the Sept 30 deadline. The Board has chosen to use the election committee to 'validate' the candidates, somewhat extraneous of the BL as the only requirement to run is to be a member and in good standing, and last Saturday with no small effort the 10 candidates were approved for recommendation to the Board. Subsequent to that -- early Monday morning out of the blue the VP went into the office to further validate by signature verification. This was never discussed at a committee level, and again, is extraneous of the BL which designates the secretary for member verification. DanielP asks a valid question: Have the other candidates voiced their opinion on removing the speed bumps. I believe that is a fair question to ask. Or phrased differently, if elected to they see a clear path forward to removal? Considering our recent past I would imagine any such action would result in threats of lawsuit, at the very least. If the BL changes move forward there is one to amend the BL to allow mediation be required before litigation. To answer your question about the president's election; if you still retain your copy of the President's Report sent to all members in August, turn to the backside, final paragraph you will find the Board approved using member monies to not so subtly advocate the vote [reelection]for the president, the secretary [by full name] and the election of one other member by allowing the solicitous comments contained in the final paragraph. The other 7 nominees have thus far been sent to the Attorney for verification of legitimacy because their nominations were submitted on what was advanced/alleged as HSCA letterhead. When the attorney let them know they could not disqualify based on that he suggested that the more illegible signatures without an additional line where the signer would print the name could be used to disqualify because they could not verify the individuals in question were members if they did not know who wrote the name. That turned into quite a fiasco because some on the committee would not settle for the wife of one of the questionable signatures verifying her husband's, of 44 yrs, signature. They expected him to drop what he was doing and drive to the meeting right then and vouch for his signature. After all that, they still had someone --- not the secretary -- verifying signatures. At this juncture your guess is as good as anyone not on the Board as to who the candidates are other than the 3 already campaigning through the President's Report to members sent in August. The upcoming Meeting on Thursday evening, Nov 10 has as part of the Agenda discussion on policy for Speed Bumps and a report from the Election Committee. I mention this because Members have a time to address items on the Agenda for 3 minutes before the business of the meeting gets started. That would be a place for members to take the time to comment on the agenda items that most interest them, like the Speed Bumps and Candidates. Question Authority! RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - Guest - 11-03-2011 I will attend the board meeting on the 10th, I hope many more would consider attending as well. RE: Honk if you don't like the Shores speed bumps - rusty h - 11-03-2011 so "Slow down this isn't the mainland" doesn't apply in Shore does it? I was taught the honking in Hawaii was very rude, but in this case I guess that's the whole meaning. Hope it all works out in the end for everyone. peace |
