RE: Tucker is a ****er - punalvr - 12-22-2011 IMHO, I believe you previous posters are right on. This guy is a "guest" in here, and as such, he should behave as such. Imagine this guy being your guest at your home, belittering you for all to know, and not wanting to leave? Wow, amazing how some people can behave! punalvr RE: Tucker is a ****er - DanielP - 12-22-2011 Pity party for Hawaiiguy. RE: Tucker is a ****er - Andrew - 12-22-2011 Hey Rob: Any chance you can delete these 2 threads? I know it's kind of like cleaning up the dog kennel but someone has to man the shovel. Andrew RE: Tucker is a ****er - dakine - 12-22-2011 it's interesting how freedom of speech so often is used to condemn someone else's use of their freedom of speech when they use it to express an opinion. as if opinions are somehow lesser of a right to have than it is to speak them. my take on it is we all have the right to have opinions.. but alot more responsibiliy than most people acknowledge or practice if we wish to retain the right to express them. being kind when can helps. my opinion of rob and punaweb is that he is selfless beyond any expectations in moderating and we all are blessed by his dedication to keeping it online http://akamaidesign.com RE: Tucker is a ****er - Rob Tucker - 12-22-2011 It would appear that Hawaiiguy is the first individual banned from Punaweb several years ago. His initials are F.B. Once you are banned you stay banned. Hawaiiguy is now locked out. F.B. - no matter how many names you try to register under you still count as one. Sorry bub. To our members: This is Puna related in its way. Let me know if you want the topic to stay or not. Flamers and Trolls are a local topic. Assume the best and ask questions. Punaweb moderator RE: Tucker is a ****er - AlohaSteven - 12-22-2011 Personally, I find this sort of phenomenon informative. The shield of anonymity protects trollish, hostile, or potentially psychologically unhinged posters from the bright light of community scrutiny and other appropriate action so it may at times indeed be necessary for a moderator (Rob, in this case) to remove their posts when they wax slanderous or threatening. As long as they are simply educating the community regarding diversity by demonstrating divergent opinion (and, perhaps inadvertently, by showing how far out there the fringes of the bell-shaped curve may extend) though, then I'd let them run their course as long as doing so is not creating a legal liability or potential for real damage to someone. For example, if a poster rants that a Punawebber living at [address] and working at [name of company] is a censoring fascist on a power trip, regularly beats his wife, molests his pets, and sells substandard widgets then I'd recommend at least deleting the home address and the name of the company, if not the whole thread. Real names, likewise, since those will pull up in a Google search (which is why I am AlohaSteven online instead of using my legal name) by grant reviewers or potential employers. How much time can Rob or anybody else devote to policing such a volunteer community forum, after all? If this was Facebook (gawd forbid!) then paid minions could be the censoring fascists on power trips, but not so here. If, however, a poster has already been banned from a forum and is attempting to sneak back in, then the rules already deal with that scenario. How sad, though, for someone to spend time & energy fuming and wanting back into a forum s/he reviles. Do move on to happier and healthier pursuits, I'd suggest; life is too short to stay mad about either real or perceived slights. I told him that it was about time I got to see him in person. He said, "Oh no, did I say something that offended you?" I reminded him of all the stuff on Punaweb...and emails he sent to me personally telling me I was like a sheep just being led around. Said I had no opinions of my own. I told him he really didn't know me. Frank didn't hang around us for very long...don't know where he went. I just feel better when I let go of that crap, Frank. I hope someday you can too. Carrie RE: Tucker is a ****er - Greg - 12-22-2011 I think Rob has a good realization of the sense of "community" that is present here. [] I would rather thank all of the other contributors to this site. Whether I agree or not with everyone's point of view; The Aloha shown here is heartening. On the other foot; I am continually amazed and saddened that people like hawaiiguy and those on other sites are so completely obsessed and driven by anger. [V] It truly sucks to be them. RE: Tucker is a ****er - pslamont - 12-22-2011 Punaweb is Awesome, period. I have been here since pretty early on and have watched it blossom into a true community. It occurs to me that few other forums spill over into real life as Punaweb has and this has brought a ton of wonderful people together in many different ways. We are a community like none other I have ever seen or known. As for the miscreants who arrive... we must realize that these disruptors have mental health issues, whether large or small, and that although we need not suffer their continued misbehavior we do best to ignore it. I too had some major issues with FB. Thankfully, Rob handled it and handled it well. We all need to remember that the guarantee of free speech isn't universal... it is a guarantee against government interference. This is a private site. No government regulation. Rob does an incredible job in setting reasonable and appropriate limits and guidelines. As others have said, "If you don't like it here, no one has to stay." That all said, I for one am pleased and proud to be a Punawebber. We have altered the entire social balance of the east side of the Big Island in a very big way, and all for the good! Yay, us! LOL... I want to be the kind of woman that, when my feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh Crap, She's up!" RE: Tucker is a ****er - LeeE - 12-22-2011 Tucker is a dancer? I didn't know that. Pam, Ditto that! Mahalo, for the great site, Rob. Lee Eisenstein http://members.cruzio.com/~lionel/event |
