RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - SBH - 07-19-2019 Whose side is the State on? Hawaii: A State of Confusion. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Seeb - 07-19-2019 It’s not a state, it’s every politician, agency and group with their hand out. They don’t want to build anything- they just want to milk the cash cow of the moment. Like the railroad to nowhere. The police and every county/state employee will get a pile of overtime. Emergency Proclamation means money can leak without oversight. They will probably dip into the money supposed to go for lava recovery. Contractors get payed contingency without having to do anything. I’m the end TMT will go to the Canary Islands and the politicians will pat themselves on the back about the good job they did. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-19-2019 Headline on Fox “News” Hawaii telescope operators abandon millions of dollars worth of instrumentation, evacuate employees amid Mauna Kea protests https://www.foxnews.com/science/hawaii-telescope-mauna-kea-abandoned-millions-worth-instrumentation-evacuated-employees-protests RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - ironyak - 07-19-2019 What did you say? I know punaweb(bers) are getting on in years... RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - KeaauRich - 07-19-2019 And now this from Bernie Sanders: "We must guarantee native people’s right to self-determination and their right to protest. I stand with Native Hawaiians who are peacefully demonstrating to protect their sacred mountain of Mauna Kea." Just what this situation needs..Bernie Sanders weighing in with his informed opinion RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-19-2019 What did you say? And I didn’t even do the size of the Fox headline justice! You’d think Man Landed On Moon or something. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 07-19-2019 They will probably dip into the money supposed to go for lava recovery. That money was never going to be spent on "recovery" for the people who were actually affected. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - ironyak - 07-19-2019 HOTPE - And I didn’t even do the size of the Fox headline justice! Well, we can still count on Mileka to keep an even tone. Looks to be about a 1,000 person day today (what will the weekend look like?) https://mobile.twitter.com/MilekaLincoln/status/1152301739137048577 RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 07-19-2019 Anyone else notice that Mauna Kea Access Road is built/maintained by County despite running across DHHL land? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - ironyak - 07-19-2019 Yeah, Puna Councilmember Matt Kanealii Kleinfelder brought this up when noting that much of the enforcement costs may end up in the County's lap. How could there ever be an issue with having a State Conservation area with a special lease to an university with buildings owned and operated by international consortiums only accessible by a county maintained (but not owned) road on Hawaiian Homestead lands? http://bigislandnow.com/2019/07/18/puna-councilman-emergency-proclamation-may-lead-to-increased-conflict-on-maunakea/ PS See Parcel 380010070000 and note the lack of a separate parcel for Mauna Kea Access Rd. https://qpublic.schneidercorp.com/Application.aspx?AppID=1048&LayerID=23618&PageTypeID=1&PageID=9875# |
