It must have been a slow news Monday at the Star-Bulletin. The USGS-HVO website doesn't describe anything particularly new or alarming in today's update.

Once again...the media sacrifices responsibility in the name of sensationalism. This is why I now only refer to http://www.lavainfo.us/ for my information.

Nah, something is happening, but it is just happening very slowly. Like a snail on fire....

don't know what's going on...

But, I can sure see the GLOW ... looks like it's getting wider (bigger) the glow is. Even in the full moon the glow is really evident check it out you should be able to see it. I'm in HPP 22nd and shower so, If I can see you should too...

http://www.lavainfo.us/

The above site just links to HVO. Last updated 9/14. HVO updates daily. I do imagine that if this flow kicks into gear the civil defense site will have more detailed information.

The "glow" might be attributable to the fact that it has been cloudier of late, if it has. The lower the clouds, the brighter the glow I imagine. On the other hand, it might be attributable to the fact that this molten rivulent has gone about a mile East of where it was a month ago.

Let's see at a mile a month......

Now, tell me again where in HPP that Kazumura tube comes through...

Nope...it doesn't JUST link to HVO, it links to HVO and Civil Defense...go to the site and read...it says...

This web site is also established to provide you with a convenient one-stop link to all current Civil Defense information and advisories relating to this eruption. This web site will be updated as necessary to assure you information is current.

The links to the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory will provide the latest and most accurate information about the lava flow. The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory is the single and only official source for current and accurate information on the volcanic eruption. The links to Civil Defense will provide you with the latest Civil Defense information as well as a section on Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).

Yes, but for the latest news on the lava, I prefer HVO. It provides daily updates on the flow. Not so the civil defense site.

The site you mention will become important in my opinion when the lava becomes a threat and civil defense is engaged and there are announcements to make. But it's nice to know it's there, and thank you for reminding us.

Anyway, nothing to be concerned about. A giant snail is on fire, and yet is not consumed, and it is pondering in which direction to go.

Is there anybody on the forum up at Volcano? I can't find anything that mentions vog up here
(near golf course and about am mile from the Park's entrance). But I have vog symptoms...If the flow is now parallel to hear instead of heading away to the ocean that would explain. Or maybe it's just the flu.

I wanna see the glow! Haven't seen this since 88, 89 I think. We can't see it up here. I would guess coming back from Hilo at night on Hwy 11 is too far west.

The September 25 erruption map at http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/kilauea/update/maps.html shows that two of the three main active lava flows are heading south. If they continue for even a short distance further south, the map showing the steepest lines of decent (that someposted here recently) would indicate that they flow would continue south to the sea over recent lava flows, endangering nothing. If they did so, their decent would be much steeper than that of the third main active lava flow and the gravitational effect might starve the east heading flow of fresh lava.

Interesting theory Rob! Has anyone ever heard of anything man made averting a lava flow?
