RE: HPP Board 2014 - Kapohocat - 09-30-2014 Rob - Cathy has not descended from the heavens although she is a pretty nice person. She has been reading the posts from the beginning as she was one of the 3. I guess she just decided to finally respond as many of the posts are about the terminated employees. RE: HPP Board 2014 - TomK - 09-30-2014 Rob - it was funny nevertheless. I'm going to try and think of the ten commandments that HPP residents should obey. Suggestions welcome! RE: HPP Board 2014 - Kenney - 10-01-2014 I'd like to see 10 Commandments the Board should obey. I've been trying not to think about it, but tomorrow is the first of weekly Board Meetings scheduled in order to "catch up" with HPP business in the Activity Center Library. (room capacity about 35 people. No space for rabble rousers or concerned residents) More info. on Special Board Meeting on HPPOA website if you're interested. Owners will not be allowed to speak, as we are "guests". We will be allowed to write our input on index cards. Not sure when they plan to respond to those, or if they plan to supply index cards. (byo) They will be deciding if HAAS school gets to have our Activity Center 5 days a week (guess they think we won't need it) if the lava crosses the highway. Maku'u will already be congested, so what's one more school bus? We already have commitments to several clubs and groups who rent the space on a regular basis and we also might have to use it to support our community needs as provided by Civil Defense, County, Red Cross and other volunteers. HAAS is a great school, and I'd love to help them place their students, (up to 90 teenagers) but I think the needs of our whole community should come first. Maybe we can brainstorm another venue for the school. Any ideas? I get the feeling that it's a "done deal" already. Apparently the needs of over 12,000 residents aren't really that important to the Board, as evidenced by us having to go everywhere BUT HPP for emergency supplies the first week after the storm. Sitting in the sun waiting for ice at the Fire Station, Churches in Pahoa and on 32nd and Pahoa H.S. for 3 hours was fun. (not) (btw, Mahalo to all the Churches who helped us) It's too bad we never know who we're voting for before they're already Board Members. A one paragraph Bio doesn't really tell the whole story. In many cases, by the time we get to know the person, it's too late. I really love HPP and my home but if I had known what I know now about the "Association" I wouldn't have bought land here. (hindsight is always so clear) I hope everybody who attends the meeting will update us all tomorrow. It should be interesting to see what is decided. It will affect us all. RE: HPP Board 2014 - 4antares - 10-01-2014 It has been humorous for a while. It is hard to take so much pointless bickering seriously. life is short. enjoy it RE: HPP Board 2014 - kalakoa - 10-01-2014 Apparently the needs of over 12,000 residents aren't really that important to the Board Guess what? The needs of those residents aren't important to County either! RE: HPP Board 2014 - reni - 10-01-2014 Glad to see that the topic of Lilikoi Juice is now between the two topics of HPP Board and Big Island Circus. They were blending into one for me. RE: HPP Board 2014 - Kenney - 10-01-2014 I don't know why they'd even consider it either Karma, but it's on the agenda for tomorrow morning's meeting. Ask them. (email or bring your index card tomorrow) I totally agree with you. The Hui is all we've got for whatever needs doing in an emergency. We can loan it to anybody who needs it, but to commit to a contract for it's use seems unwise to me. RE: HPP Board 2014 - csgray - 10-01-2014 quote: Schools in Hawaii are state funded, not county funded. Charter schools receive a per pupil funding that is about 3/4 of the funding DOE schools get, and have to provide facilities out of that, which DOE schools do not. This means that charter schools, even though they are public schools, have about 1/2 the funds to spend on their students. The HAAS campus is located in a low spot on the makai side of the Pahoa bypass and is faced with the possibility of losing their campus, in addition many of their students live in HPP, and I would guess they are hoping to teach their students on the same side of the lava as the students live, to avoid bussing them on Railroad or Beach roads. This is an extraordinary time, which calls for extraordinary measures. Many of these students are residents of HPP, perhaps this could be the first step towards HPP having a school within its own boundaries, instead of bussing our kids to Keaau and Pahoa. The Hui is virtually never used on M-F weekdays, very few people or activities would be displaced, but it would allow these young people to continue their education with their classmates and teachers, instead of being forced to transfer to Keaau or some other school. To quote all the people who didn't like me raising the issue of fair compensation for the use of HPP roads during this emergency: "Where's the aloha?" Extraordinary! RE: HPP Board 2014 - csgray - 10-01-2014 I apologize for the double post, I am on a really wonky internet access system today.
