There is more money in drugs than GMO skeeters in the current medical/economic system. Personally, I would like to see a multi modal approach of using every tool available to deal with Dengue here. Mexico is a huge country and has firmly grasped the concept of preventative medicines like vaccines as being more effective than treating the disease once you are in the middle of an epidemic, especially with rural communities with limited resources.

Umm, this is a vaccine, not medicine you have take forever. While it does require 3 shots spread out over a year, it confers immunity to all four strains of dengue in about 2/3rds of patients.
Given that it took over 20 years of research to develop, it is extremely fortunate timing that it becoming available now to address the worldwide rise of dengue.
Hopefully, dengue will not become endemic here like it has on so many tropical islands, and we all see dengue go the way of polio in our lifetime (but that was probably just another money grubbing scheme too?

When I see that a vaccine has been developed I get excited. When I read that the effectiveness of the vaccine is only 60% I second guess.

If someone tests positive for dengue does the spraying of the property they live on have to be done and by who? What effects would the chemicals have on someones Organic farm and would it still qualify as an Organic farm after the spraying three times?.

PSA for the day:
We all know about bromeliads holding water and mosquito larvae, but our neighbor recently hacked down a papaya tree and low and behold, the inside was hollow, quickly filled up with rainwater and... mosquito larvae. He brought a small sample of the water to show us and it was filled with happy little larvae swimming around.
Moral of the story- if you hack down a papaya, put some boric acid in the middle or get rid of the whole thing.
