The state has lost the social media war.Thousands of posts going out and they are mostly one-sided.

quote
"Government should just close the Saddle Road for a few days"

I agree with this.Or leave them alone for awhile and send out a few false reports of equipment moving at 3 or 4 AM for a few days. Then get someone to fire up the equipment and move some of it around every once in awhile.

Do all of them not have jobs ??

Wow and this is what happens after decades and decades of other people money(taxes in the form of welfare, assistance, grants and such to indigenous people) have supplemented or have been the sole income. Reality as it pertains to anyone outside themselves...still so far out of reach. Let's just keep the Big Island in a perpetual state of crime, ignorance and poverty. Inconceivable.

Strange relationship between the sacred and the profane...

@knieft - how's that now?

PS Ryan Finnerty's (Hawaii Public Radio) coverage was part of All Things Considered on NPR today

PPS Tulsi weighing in, calling for a halt to construction and more talks (things getting harder for Ige)

The panderers seem to be coming out of the woodwork like termites in swarm mode.

Watch out Chunkster, here comes Tulsi Pandered:

Ua mau ke ea o ka #699;#257;ina i ka pono. This shouldn’t be just a slogan. It must be our way of life. I urge @GovHawaii
to withdraw the emergency declaration, delay construction, and bring leaders together to determine the best path forward.

Ed Case & Mazie Hirono:

Here’s what Case said Thursday: “I support the continuation of world-class astronomy on Mauna Kea, including completion of the TMT, together with the commitment to the removal of five current telescopes and to broader community engagement.”

And here’s what Hirono said Thursday: “Like everyone in Hawaii, I am concerned for the safety of the protectors — including kupuna — who are exercising their constitutional right to peacefully protest at Maunakea. This project has undergone a significant and thorough regulatory and legal review, and I respect that process.”

Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is calling for Gov. David Ige to withdraw his emergency proclamation, delay construction and bring parties together to further discuss differences.

I wonder what good "further discussion" is when the protestors have made it pretty clear that "TMT will not be built here".

Talk about a pile of crap. The quoted statement above is a joke. A sad, sick, joke.

What is it with people that they would assume that the Hawaiian's, whose land was stolen! and are now demanding it back, are all on welfare? Are all on some kind of assistance from the government? That is a pathetic haole construct, and one that shows the ignorance of the poster. I say ignorance rather than the more colorful terms I would use if we weren't in polite company. Shame on you.

I know hundreds, thousands, of Hawaiians who are not on welfare. Who have nothing to do with the reality someone that would say the crap you spew is a part of. Hawaiians who are hard working family oriented people that your statement doesn't seem to be able to acknowledge. Wake you dude.

I believe your statement is racist. I believe you and all that would bring your ignorance to an otherwise very important moment, If you have nothing constructive to say, should remain quiet. Otherwise you are no more than disrespectful...

the Hawaiian's, whose land was stolen! and are now demanding it back, are all on welfare?

If, in fact, they were actively demanding their stolen lands back, the protestors would be occupying the vast empty DHHL subdivisions. So far that's not happening.

Whether they're on welfare, etc is irrelevant: they are perfectly happy to drive their lifted 4x4 up the highway and buy cold beer at Walmart. This is pretty much the opposite of "rejecting the invaders and their culture".

I know hundreds, thousands, of Hawaiians who are not on welfare.

Well then how do they have time to live in protest on Mauna Kea?
