RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - PaulW - 07-20-2019 The question is: Who should have the final say over what happens, courts or people willing to block public roads? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - alaskyn66 - 07-20-2019 One can only wonder, if the islands were run by a monarchy... and it was the King or Queens wish for a telescope on the mountain, would the outcome be the same. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-20-2019 What’s with this cars thing? I think it’s been pointed out in the past that when you argue human operated equipment and buildings on Mauna Kea will pollute the air and water, driving gigantic eight cylinder ten mpg vehicles up the mountain may not bolster your point. To be fair, it’s less likely new vehicles will leak patches of rainbow swirling oil across the aina. Exactly like a brand new state of the art, zero emissions observatory won’t pollute the Mauna Kea watershed. That’s been one of the most cited, longest held fallacies of the protestors, who seemingly have no problem leaving enormous, deep carbon footprints in cinder and rock across the landscape. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - MarkP - 07-20-2019 While I have a disturbing amount of faith in the predictions of gloom and doom regarding the incompetence and self-serving nature of our government officials, it seems like them selling TMT Corp down the river would have drawn well deserved howls of dismay from the TMT folks. This may be part of a longer term strategy. I don't see the TMT folks going "oh, whelp. We tried..." without there being some visible fireworks. Could be coming though. Meanwhile, being stopped on a public road by strangers with no legal authority? This has gone by several names in the past, some not so nice. WRT the cars thing: Yes, if you argue that a modern space age zero emissions observatory is an environmental threat then you should recognize that your huge lifted up 4wd truck (driven up there on a joyride) is even worse. If you don't recognize this fact then your credibility is shot. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Chunkster - 07-20-2019 When will the feckless, gutless Ige figure out that he should use his emergency powers to close Saddle Road indefinitely, only allowing people to leave? At some point the lawbreakers would run out of provisions and head for the comforts of home, leaving only a few hardcore individuals seeking martyrdom. Having taken tear gas and the National Guard off his list of resources, Ige really doesn't have much else left besides the "starve them out" option. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - glinda - 07-20-2019 Who should have the final say over what happens.. The rightful owners of the land? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - glinda - 07-20-2019 quote:Looking at that picture, one has to wonder where are all those jacked up 4x4s MarkP is so obsessed with are? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Frank - 07-20-2019 quote: The rightful owners of the land is the correct and Only answer...Ceded Lands belong to the Hawaiians... RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Seeb - 07-20-2019 Does anyone know the # of professional protesters not from the big Island. the news interviewed some RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Obie - 07-20-2019 They are just starting to flood in.It's going to be another Standing Rock. |
