There are speed bumps on the back road. Do not know when they put them in. We did not move there until 2012.

The back road is Ainaloa Dr. The main road is Ainaloa Blvd. I don’t recall any speed deterrents on the Blvd but have always noticed them on the Dr.

To further clarify, the are no speed bumps from HWY 130 down Ainaloa Blvd. to 9 Road, from 9 Road to F Road, from F Road to 8 Road and from 8 Road to HWY 11.

I would define all of those roads as "main roads" as well as the "Puna Emergency Access Route," paid for, amazingly, and ironically, with County, State and Federal dollars!

"The back road is Ainaloa Dr. The main road is Ainaloa Blvd."

Thanks for the clarification.

The questions still are:

How many speed bumps are there?
Do they slow traffic and by what amount (MPH)?

And if HPPOA installs speed bumps (4 per mile) on the main roads, would this be of concern to First Responders? Could slowing emergency vehicles to 25MPH (which is what I read, but would like someone in Ainaloa to confirm) be a problem?

Speed deterrents are meant to keep or slow people down to the speed limit. That’s why there are humps, bumps and tables. The best way to answer your question is to suggest driving the areas you are asking about. Can you go faster than the speed limit? If so, how much faster? And every car/truck/bike is different. They are meant to serve the majority.

"which is what I read, but would like someone in Ainaloa to confirm."

Thanks again, KP. But I would prefer if my questions were answered by someone who lives in Ainaloa and has experience (time, weather conditions, etc.)

It would also be interesting to hear the thoughts and concerns (if any) from a First Responder.

Why don't you drive up the road you live on and try out the speed table there ?

I can drive over it at 25mph which is the proper way for it to be designed.

"which is what I read, but would like someone in Ainaloa to confirm."

Ainaloa is a residential subdivision and the road you are asking about is 25mph., so how could this slow down an ambulance response time ?

1. What the board is suggesting are speed bumps, not tables.

2. The road I live on is not a main road.

3. The speed limit on the main roads is not 25. The speed limits on the main roads are 35. And emergency vehicles, in an emergency, will at times exceed that speed limit if necessary.

4. How 4 speed bumps every mile, on an approx. 4 mile stretch of road, will impact emergency services is probably something that should be considered and ASKED about

I don’t think police, fire, and ambulance services need input from us to determine whether speed bumps will affect their response time. They are the authorities, they will tell HPPOA what they can and cannot do with changes to the existing roads.

"I don’t think police, fire, and ambulance services need input from us to determine whether speed bumps will affect their response time."

Exactly. And that is what I am asking. For THEM to say how speed bumps might impact them.

And that is what I am asking. For THEM to say

Do you have a little badge that you can flash, or some security clearance that requires everyone must put a file on your desk no later than first thing in the morning for your review?

If you do, I’m just joking! It’s a joke!
