RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - reni - 07-20-2019 Glinda posts, "He certainly hasn’t any idea how to unify his constituents. Though I suspect a deeper set of forces than Ige’s ineptness are at play. Notice how the tried and true Democrats, Mazie and Case, toe the same party line as Ige while Tulsi, already an established renegade, has stood strongly, clearly articulating her position for the Hawaiian’s cause. And interestingly she was able to get Bernie to back her play. Payback for all the support she gave Bernie back in ‘16? And Josh speaking out against Ige? I think Ige is way out of his depth" I agree, we are witnessing more than a handful of Hawaiians protesting. Locally we have Kamehameha Schools, the undergraduates of University of Hawaii and now A State Rep. and religious leaders, including Christian Church leaders standing with the Kanaka Maoli. This current uprising has the potential of severely crippling the "established machine" that controls this State and I hope it does. 100 Religious Leaders Release Statement of Solidarity with Kanaka http://bigislandnow.com/2019/07/20/100-religious-leaders-release-statement-of-solidarity-with-kanaka/ "We the undersigned have a responsibility not to stay silent in the face of injustice. We are not against science or scientific research. But it should be done in an appropriate location. Some may disagree, but we believe the mountain belongs to the Kanaka maoli. It is part of their homeland." And they must have a say about what to do and what not to do on their sacred land! We offer our prayers in solidarity with all our kanaka maoli sisters and brothers who feel oppressed, bullied, and not listened to." RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Punatic007 - 07-20-2019 I honestly have not seen this level of ignorance since witnessing the segregated south in the 1960's. Bathrooms and water fountains were labeled men, women and colored. You could only shake your head in disbelief at the ugliness of human behavior. I now feel the same shock witnessing this unfathomable depth of ignorance. Much of the protestors ire comes from good old fashioned racism. This is our mountain go home haole is the fuel behind their current words and actions. The ignorance is so dark it doesn't even want education or science on the island, forsaking their own children. When will the Hawaiians be treated like normal people not victims of a false narrative? I need to take a shower just thinking about it. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-20-2019 100 Religious Leaders Release Statement of Solidarity with Kanaka "We the undersigned have a responsibility not to stay silent in the face of injustice. Oh really? The scions, the bloodline of those who initiated a system which robbed the Hawaiian people of their religion, culture, dance, and oral traditions now, finally, after 200 years of overt oppression and cultural destruction claim church leaders have a responsibility not to stay silent? Entering the fray, the biggest bunch of pandering hypocrites yet. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-20-2019 “Stop giving power to people who don't believe in science.” "Stop for God's sake the denigration of science! Stop giving power to people who don't believe in science, or worse than that, pretend they don't believe in science for their own self-interest," Ford says, his voice cracking as it rises in volume. Harrison Ford speaking at a climate conference. Since Mr. Ford has probably visited (as Han Solo) many of the places the TMT will observe, l believe his comments are appropriate in this thread. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - kalakoa - 07-20-2019 What's with this cars thing? There is some hypocrisy (or at least irony) for people to claim "desecration of the land" when they're more than happy to utilize other modern technologies (gas-powered vehicles, roads, air conditioning, grid power) which also desecrate the land. We are not against science or scientific research. But it should be done in an appropriate location. Every location is sacred to someone. Best if we don't build anything at all, ever. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - MarkP - 07-20-2019 quote: Counted about 10 trucks in this photo alone. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - glinda - 07-20-2019 Counted about 10 trucks in this photo alone. Trucks? 10, really? Wow. I imagine that's a lot higher percentage than the island as a whole. Yeah, right? And besides you were bitching about "huge lifted up 4wd truck" as if to single out some sort of iconic abuse to your senses. I see maybe one of that kind.. maybe.. but dude, you are so wimping out here. I was sure you had some picture of a line of monster trucks toting upside-down Hawaiian flags and all, sitting on at least 6 or 8 inch lifts, and massive tires, desecrating the land.. but.. maybe there's 10 trucks in that pic? Thanks for the laugh. The longer this goes on the greater the entertainment value for sure. Unfortunately, for our neighbors, it's a deadly serious struggle for their identity. For their right to self determination. And no laughing matter anywhere. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - ElysianWort - 07-20-2019 quote: What exactly is a professional protester? Does such a thing exist? I understand that many are flying in to join the protest but are there really those that get paid for it? Definition of professional. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - Frank - 07-20-2019 United States Public Law 103-105, informally known as the Apology Resolution, is a Joint Resolution of the U.S. Congress adopted in 1993 that "acknowledges that the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii occurred with the active participation of agents and citizens of the United States and further acknowledges that the Native Hawaiian people never directly relinquished to the United States their claims to their inherent sovereignty as a people over their national lands, either through the Kingdom of Hawaii or through a plebiscite or referendum" (U.S. Public Law 103-150 (107 Stat. 1510)) above taken from wikipedia...I think the ceded lands belong to the Hawaiians...that is the issue...ceded lands are the Engine that drive this State...airports, harbors, Mauna Kia, the Hawaiians own all the land these drivers occupy RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - MarkP - 07-20-2019 " it's a deadly serious struggle for their identity. For their right to self determination" So not about the water table. Looks like about half the vehicles were large trucks which even stock are ironically mainstream American male trying to project an image personified. This is in a way about identity. |
