When I read about the activities of the citizens coalition (above) I can't see that there is much difference between them and a clique.

Private meetings? Apparently.
With former or potential government employees and/or representatives? Possibly.
Attempts to influence legislation by endorsing one candidate over another, and other means? Yes

I'm sure the devil is in the details, but on the surface they look quite similar.

TEH may or may not be legally entitled to represent District 5, and it's unfortunate her residency may not be determined until after the election. But it also looks like it is not just some concerned citizens operating in the public eye who would like to see justice served. It appears more like her pursuit is by any means necessary to justify the ends.

Peas in a pod.

citizens coalition ... can't see that there is much difference between them and a clique

Exactly what I meant by "trading one clique for another".

her pursuit is by any means necessary to justify the ends

Thus far: complaints to County about the SUP, a DLNR investigation, voter/residency fraud complaint, an ethics investigation, possibly invoking Homeland Security against an allegedly "illegal alien", and "guilt by association" for anyone who seems to "stand next to" the "old Puna clique".

I fail to see how this is an "improvement". Unfortunately, we'll all have to suffer through the election cycle and wait a couple of years to see how everything turns out. I predict that Puna will still be a poor district with little or no infrastructure. (By way of supporting this opinion: the highways are still State, the subdivisions are still "private", and a few people still own most of the land; the elected "representatives" are not powerful enough to upset this applecart.)

This self righteous, self appointed, self serving "citizens coalition" using the guise of community good to carry out private vendettas and personal agendas is at the least every bit as concerning as any of the other aspect of local life and politics. I'm not a TEH fan but this clique, cabal, coven, whatever you want to call it is far more insidious.

life is short. enjoy it

self righteous, self appointed, self serving "citizens coalition"

Don't forget "vindictive".

Not so -- the concerned citizens went to the Elections clerk, the Prosecutor. The Attorney General and the police as advised. Each step of the way they have followed the protocol laid out by the authorities.

A clique is closed. The coalition is wide open to any concerned citizens who wish to be involved and have the nerve to stand up to this candidate who has a reputation for retaliation and threats.

The police have limitations on manpower and time. They certainly do not mind some volunteer effort. They use what works for them only, as it should be.

Let's face it, if a detective had to read Big Island Chronicle's last five years of blogging and comments with no background in it, he'd probably be saying "just shoot me already" or would give up. Many hands make light work.

There's nothing insidious about it. Anyone who has lived on this island very long knows that it takes some dedication to get anything done on the part of the government officials. You don't just sit back and know it will get done. If that is your experience, you live on the other side of the wormhole.

Citizens need to work to protect an honest election and also to keep candidates honest.
This is not all about Tiffany. This case will give voter and homeowner cheats of the future pause in doing whatever they feel like doing thinking they will never get caught or never pay a penalty if they do get caught. Ultimately that is good for the people at large.

You are free to disagree but I am certainly not ashamed of working towards less of this type of fraud on our island.

When are the meetings? Do you have any paper or electronic notices of past meetings? When is the next one? Have any meetings of this citizens coalition ever been held in private? Without notice to the public?

RE: Alleged voter fraud follow up - missydog1 - 10-26-2014

You guys also seem to forget that it was entirely Tiffany's choice to cheat on her property taxes and to register in a district where she was not entitled to vote, for five years. No one is persecuting her. She did the crime and will "do the time" whatever the law decides.

What perturbs me is that people here support such a cheat. All our taxes got raised last year, but she was not paying her share, and that means other people had to pay for her
-- for the last eight years.

And you know the voter fraud was her obsession with ABE -- anyone but Emily. She is the one who threw a lot away because she was obsessed with trying to control what happened in Pahoa. All her choices. I have other things I would rather do, for sure, and air wish she would have been honest and saved me and others a lot of time and trouble. It's a fairly thankless project (obviously).

I would not support a candidate who was not a legal resident of the district s/he wants to represent.

It's a fairly thankless project.

Is it a 100% thankless public project?
Or at times a thankless private project?

RE: Alleged voter fraud follow up - kalakoa - 10-26-2014

When are the meetings?

Good point -- I've never seen them advertised.

Citizens need to work to protect an honest election and also to keep candidates honest.

Too bad the majority landowners aren't up for election.

as you know, the current voter fraud case is about voters trying to change the outcome of an election by voting out of district.. It is not about candidate residency. It is about felony election fraud. The question is do you support a candidate who has committed a felony or is likely to have done so. I don't think convicted felons can hold office in this state, can they?
