I just saw on the morning news that the new flow has taken 7 acres so far...but no new updates or photos on the sites in the links here...wonder why.

Carrie, the updates are usually later morning & afternoons. Staff there has been very busy with all of the activity (visitor & volcano). They have been having a morning staff meeting & debriefing, then new pictures are updated (maybe staff & volunteers bring the photos to the table?)
Some of the media pics. have been from tour helicopter overflights.

I been wondering how come nobody's commented on which side of the crater this is.. I mean, from the photos it seems apparent steam and cracking are on the opposite of the ridge. Indicating the "new flow" is headed toward, providing it continues cracking on this side, the valley which goes down by fern acres, nanavalle, etc.. But what do I know? nutin..

I'm not sure what ridge you're referring to, but if you look at the maps
http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/kilauea/update/maps.html
the new activity is west of the Pu'u O'o area, away from the population centers of lower Puna. It's back towards to the Chain of Craters Road.

The updated images has the picture the Tribune Herald had on the cover. Who knew Pele liked Rabbits? (Pu'u 'O'o crater has two collapses that create 'bunny ears' off of the main crater).

Yes, what I mean is, it is now on the northwestern flank verses southeast of the ridge as was the Pu`u O`o vent. Here's one of the photographs looking westerly, showing the new vents on the northern side of the ridge.

From the photo it appears that The last time Mauna Ulu erupted, it flowed threw this bit of a valley. Which is on the volcano, Fern acres side of the ridge. Perhaps this dumps south but there's nothing really clear as to which direction a flow from this point could go..

From what I understand, Pu'u O'o has nearly shut down. The new area of activity, which flowed for less than a day, is located further west-southwest of Pu'u O'o. If that became active and started to pour out lava, wouldn't it have to go uphill or level to affect Fern Acres? I can't find a map with contours to compare elevations.

I was just at the Park VC and the Crater Rim Road has reopened (SO2 levels must have dropped sufficiently) but the Chain of Craters Road is still closed. There's a neat graphic posted at the VC that shows what they imagine is going on underground. The graphic is here:

Oops, now that I read the text and callouts, that's from episode 54. Still, it kind of provides a picture of what might be going on underneath.

Fern Acres and Nanawale Estates are quite far from each other, and are in differing lava zones (3 and 2). Lava Tree Park is a mile or so east of the Nanawale Subdivision but Leilani Sub is found within zone 1.
They ran a pic of the Chain of Craters Rd. where it's cracked and thats inside the Park, not where any subs are found (very barren but colorful landscape - hard to take a pic of it when you're driving that hairpin curve).
