Hawaii Bound. We've been buying it on Oahu from BE READY HAWAII and bringing it back as carry on. We can put 3 cans x 2 of us every trip in those large HomeDepot orange bags. That is why I was so thrilled that this woman who will be at the HPP SWAP MEET tomorrow will be selling it. We order the same stuff from Costco on line and the order got as far a California and they realized it was coming to Hawaii and they killed the entire order... I was pissed.
So come to the Swap Meet tomorrow and we'll both find out how to get it here.

It really sucks that we have food inflation...I think we all agree...but...
How many posters complain about inflation but still spend money on non-essential items, such as cigarettes, booze and pot? I can't believe how often I've seen people driving around in super big gas guzzlers and then they still complain about the high cost of fuel. Granted, some of these vehicles are necessary for work, but that's not what I'm talking about. Let us hear from the posters who are concerned about inflation but only spend money on necessities.

It is an absolute necessity that I shop at walmart for food for my kids. Cant feed them any other way

Unknown Julie, everything about your posts tells me that you are an educated, intelligent woman. Not being judgmental here as I know nothing about your situation, just disturbed at the thought that nutrition at any cost can be found in boxed, canned products at Walmart. Compare the ingredients of the Walmart packaged food to fresh food from Makuu market, or fast prep recipes found on cooking sites. Your children might not want to change their habits, but it would be in the best interest of their own health to do so.
Most of my life, I have enjoyed fresh food and have also trusted the foods available in grocery stores.
8 years ago, I started reading the labels. So glad I did. The salt! the fructose! the chemicals!

And yet another post that I have made about something pertinent and relevant to our community -and several people have attempted to degrade it into a lecture on parenting for me. Give it up. I can parent/feed my kids/use realtors or whatever. IF I need advice I will ask for it. I am a skinny, lawabiding, taxpaying, employed person. Go find someone else to pick on.

Julie, I totally get what you were trying to say, having had to struggle raising 4 children on a waitress income,
In a small town with no Walmart anywhere near.
You kind of put yourself out there, when you said Walmart was the only way to round out your food supply.
In a place where healthy food is so abundant, and affordable via the farmers markets, we are very blessed indeed.
Walmart is actually easily competed with here, by doing some comparison shopping between different stores in the same vicinity as
Walmart.
I shop at about 4 stores every week, after planning meals, and doing some homework on the different sales.
I go to Walmart too, but sometimes it is the easy way out, when I don't want to do the research ahead of time.

RE: Food Inflation - unknownjulie - 07-13-2013

I never said I dont shop at other stores! I do not exclusively shop at walmart. Of course not. I go wherever the food is the cheapest- for the same thing. Walmart is a large part, and so is KTA.
