I don't walk in HPP because of loose dogs and young "men" racing around in their often illegal cars. They use the cars to vent their energy and show off. jmo

It's sad people can't get out in their own neighborhood in fear of being run over or bitten ...

I sometimes will brave it take a walk down to the shoreline using all the loops, Kahakai blvd is dangerous. As it is I only gotta walk about 4 blocks on that road. From one loop to the next. I carry a thick bamboo walking stick with a slightly pointed edge just in case I run into an aggressive dog. So far I have no problems but people do tend to race down the streets and some get a little too close for my taste. As there are no sidewalks and I see kids skating / biking / walking all the time when I go for a hike.

On that note... Hope the bicyclist is OK.

Why does HPP have more roaming dog problems than Orchidland? Is it just the population density or is there something else at work?

My 83 year old dad walks in our area of HPP virtually every day, he feels perfectly safe from dogs and drivers both. I think it is a big subdivision with a lot of little sub neighborhoods and areas that have different personalities and different safety factors. I would not have felt safe about him walking in our neighborhood when we lived in Orchidland, which is another big subdivision with a lot of variety in neighborhoods. I think it is hard to make accurate sweeping statements about subdivisions that are as big as some towns or counties on the mainland.
