Enjoy this little sun break while you can. There are more torrential rains coming. This is coming from a low off New Zealand last week, creating a swell that we are just seeing the leading edge. Warning: high surf on south west shores. Hurry, jump in the canoe and try to get the biggest swell!

voyager, the same thing is happening to catchment at our rental. Its because me and my wife do not use that much water, and so the tank is overflowing from the sides now with all the rain

Tink - are you up there in the Sierra's? Looks like you might be getting some more soon. We could use some down here in the valley (we hit 106 the other day).

1voyager - I have no experience with catchment tanks but water flowing off a roof and hitting a houses foundation is somewhat similar. Could you add a length of pipe to the overflow, and the 2nd one if you add it, that would shunt the extra water away from the base? Say 10-15 feet? I did that with my gutters...

Hey Oneself, I just noticed your post count hit 666. Where did you say you came from? >:-)

I'm loving this rain.
From 2003-4 winter to 2007, It rained more often than not in Hilo and in Papa'ikou. The stream by my other house was roaring with water. (Kapua stream). My current stream is rushing now, but it's mostly quiet these days. I love the white noise when it comes.

Was raining here in leilani until noon. Picked up fishenjim, drove 6 miles down to Poihiki and it never rained unless we were next to the cliffs that got hit by the rather large waves. The fishing was tough between large waves and low bait count. We did manage to catch a couple rock cod, a few Aama crabs, and saw a few eels. The show was the surf but very nice to be out in the sunshine a bit. I think the surf was rising and could be monsters the next few days, beats the rain though.

Is there a good source for weather/radar info? Accuweather just says "chance of rain", whether it's dry or a deluge. National Weather Service is only slightly better. Also the radar only shows what's immediately ahead. Is there a radar that shows a bigger rain picture for Puna? Like tropical storms/depressions on approach?
Kelena, perhaps you could kindly post your social calendar of mainland visitors, so we can be prepared for long periods of rain. [Big Grin]

I like this site for better information. The forecast is not in layman's terms but once you decipher it has good information on what to expect about a week out. It is for the whole state but they do break it down by island and windward or leeward sides. More accurate than your average TV weather person!
