RE: HPP Board 2014 - Seeb - 09-05-2014

I had a unanimous -1 vote for a motion at a general meeting and the board ignored it.

RE: HPP Board 2014 - Chunkster - 09-05-2014

I was at a general membership meeting a couple of years ago where it was voted to give HPP based community organizations a break on the rental of the activity center for their functions. I think the guy who was chairman of the Neighborhood Watch at the time made the motion. When I went to the swap meet later and asked the NW folks if they were happy with their improved rent situation, I was told the board, under the direction of the recently replaced president had overridden that. I was upset, thinking this wasn't allowed, so I contacted my district rep who told me that was exactly what happened because "think of the chaos if we let the general membership make financial decisions."

So, Mr. Weatherford, I can't quote you the chapter and verse of the bylaws under which she overturned the will of the members, but the ex-president who is orchestrating this special meeting set the precedent for ignoring membership votes. So now she has a different point of view and wants it both ways. If people in leadership think the bylaws only matter when they suit their purpose, we are in worse trouble than I imagined.

Don't get me wrong. I have grave concerns about the current board's actions and attitudes. I went to two of their meetings where bitter arguments and shoutdowns were the order of the day, and some of the new board members were as bad as the peanut gallery in their behavior. They acted rashly with the firings, to say the least. On the other hand, the old board allowed a real fiasco to develop with the grubbing and greenwaste mess and then spent a ton of money to fix it when faced with fines from the health dept. This is the second time in recent memory where a faction took control of the board with the replacement of the GM as their agenda. The ex-president currently bemoaning the recent firings spearheaded the group that removed Kaniu Stocksdale, and now she's indignant that her group and guy got turned out. The precedent was set.

So if you still think that self government works for HPP, think again. I have gone to enough meetings and seen enough elections with pathetic turnout to know it doesn't work. I learned the other day that there is a consent order from the last receivership. Someone with more sense than me needs to look at that and see if the current mess qualifies us for judge-appointed professional management. Please. I'm tired of all this crap from both sides.

There may not be 200 lot owners in a specific district living on island. So it will probably come down to lawyers. They haven't pissed me off enough to spend my own money at it, so it's up to you all.

RE: HPP Board 2014 - Seeb - 09-05-2014

That motion was for ENET the disaster planning committee ( wouldn't have that been handy a few weeks ago if the boards hadn't murdered it.)
Jerry Carr from NW had helped me because am a lousy public speaker

Frank,
You left out:
Fact....the HPPOA board has been acting outside of their role as policy makers, by taking over operations on a day to day basis for far longer than is justified as an "emergency" action after their hasty firing of the top 3 employees.

Mahalo Chunkster!!! You have done a fabulous job of presenting MY THOUGHTS of the past board and past management team.I've Served on several boards and have never witnessed such a mess as HPPOA What "Drama ", so much backbiting . A good example of this is the first post to this thread. . The notion that we had "Professionals" managing our association prior to the firing is laughable .
The current board has established a Human resource committee . ( a friend of mine volunteered). It was their task to clarify job descriptions prior to the new hire process. It is my understanding that what is currently in place , is temporary. I do hope that a professional management service is being considered, and at this stage, I'll take it with or without receivership.

RE: HPP Board 2014 - Chunkster - 09-05-2014

Seeb, thanks for the clarification of my memory of that meeting. So I'm not the only one who remembers the previous board and president setting aside general membership votes when it suited them.

Carol, I agree that the board shouldn't run day to day operations. Given the recent disaster and dislocation, however, I don't know how or when they could have recruited a new manager. Does anyone know if they have advertised for the vacant positions? If they haven't at least begun a process to fill them, I would have to agree that they are out of line in both their attitude and actions.

RE: HPP Board 2014 - steve1 - 09-05-2014

I would be sincerely astounded if the "new board" actually posted the job of General Manager in a competitive open posting. To my knowledge they have posted no meeting minutes and have held multiple secret meeting where they only inform the portion of the board who agrees with them while failing to invite any board members who might disagree with them.

The queen speaker herself said something to the effect that she will not answer emails because she doesn't like computers <or accountability (my words)> and she will only respond to phone calls of people who are nice to her.

So from what I can see she gave the job to her retired husband who spent his days counting tools while the people of HPP cleared the massive amounts of Albizia damage and failed to communicate effectively wity State and County officials so people living in the largest subdivision in the US had to travel to Pahoa and Hawaiian Shores the first week of the disaster to get ice, internet access, and communicate with officials who were trying to coordinate efforts.

I hope they are personally sued by people harmed for their ineptitude and incompetence rather than having the members of HPPOA pay for their rash of failures and misfeasance.
