RE: Rush to put in roads - Rob Tucker - 09-15-2014 Railroad/ Beach was always a poor choice. Now that they have invested money in them they may become a first choice. RE: Rush to put in roads - OnoOno - 09-15-2014 Not having the access IS the trade off (in part). Seems like you rolled the dice and might have lost. quote: Ono - So Fast - So Tasty! RE: Rush to put in roads - Seeb - 09-15-2014 They are coming out on 19th. and I think 19th is a 70ft wide right of way. so if there is a lower puna left after this, it's going to be hard to argue not to use it. RE: Rush to put in roads - missydog1 - 09-15-2014 Rob, can you remind us where the best choice route lay? Was it going through a different part of HPP using eminent domain? (I've forgotten the details.) I understand the issues with Beach Road. I wish Shipman would stop putting a big "thou shalt not pass" block between the ocean and the highway. Kathy RE: Rush to put in roads - Rob Tucker - 09-15-2014 My proposal from those years ago can be downloaded here: http://www.hawaiicountycdp.info/puna-cdp/planning-phase/community-input/Rob-Tucker-Pahoa-Parkway-Proposal-1.3.xx.pdf/view?searchterm=Rob%20Tucker If I was to change it now I would only rename it as: Paradise Parkway Proposal RE: Rush to put in roads - H22 - 09-15-2014 That proposal is excellent. RE: Rush to put in roads - Tink - 09-15-2014 Very nice and good idea Rob. Ever work for a planning department? You seem to have a knack for putting a proposal together nicely. Thanks for sharing. Too bad the Shipmans can't work on a proposal such as this, as you do propose a rock wall along their frontage. Community begins with Aloha RE: Rush to put in roads - Seeb - 09-15-2014 The cutting lots in half idea is the most destructive of the bunch.and will meet with the most resistance. RE: Rush to put in roads - james weatherford - 09-15-2014 here's another idea http://www.hawaiicountycdp.info/puna-cdp/planning-phase/community-input/Weatherford-new-route-Hilo-to-Puna.pdf/view?searchterm=weatherford http://www.hawaiicountycdp.info/puna-cdp/planning-phase/community-input/Weatherford-HPP-map-for-alt-route.pdf/view?searchterm=weatherford RE: Rush to put in roads - dakine - 09-15-2014 I wish Shipman would stop putting a big "thou shalt not pass" block between the ocean and the highway. There's an interesting, albeit extremely dry, book, I think it was called "The Shipmans of East Hawaii" which is well worth plowing through.. and it's a slog! The takeaway from that book for me was that they are a very conservative organization, that has been playing their hand with the long term (hundreds of years) in mind, not so much the short. In other words they'll be way happy to have that road go through once it's in their financial interest to do so. |
