That suit was filed in February. It has been amended to add some more plaintiffs and added the county as a defendant. Lumping PGV and the county together as defendants is probably going to get it tossed. Or it may be a continuation of the 100% employment plan for all the lawyers.

Geothermal will win. Money always wins. Mark my words. But Right on to RP and PPA. Makes for good reading.

More video from County Council meeting focused on Councilmember Wille's resolution for PGV to refrain from drilling during the weekend and for PPA to not pursue litigation. Includes full testimony from Harry Kim and Mike Kaleikini. Resolution ultimately withdrawn.

My eyes generally start glazing over when I watch County Council discussions, but hope they weren't so glazed that they didn't miss the reason why the resolution was withdrawn.

I'm still confused though. Why did Willie withdraw it?

RE: Puna Pono files lawsuit against PGV - ironyak - 03-06-2015

Wille withdrew it as neither PGV, PPA, nor any testifier supported it. PGV is going to drill and PPA is going to sue, as they both wish.

Reminds me of the old melodramas (or perhaps a silent film this time) with caricatured roles and fixed plotlines for everyone involved. You decide - who rides the horse, who wears the tophat, and who is getting tied to the track and railroaded?

Lailani dude, really? There is nothing released into the air when they drill? I personally don't have any health issues from the volcano. But I have had some from PGV. If they do a health study, I hope they look into heavy metal sensitivities and allergies of near by residents.

Forgive me for prying, but how could you or your doctor differentiate between symptoms related to PGV and symptoms related to the volcano? Is there some chemical that comes only from PGV and not the volcano? If so, I'm interested to know how any nexus could be shown between that particular chemical and a physical symptom. If indeed this is the case, you would seem to have a particularly strong case for relocation.

Mahalo in advance.

Yes: money.

Adrenaline at the smell of sulfur:

Another smell-related fear reaction comes from humans smelling anything that is particularly noxious, especially in crowds. Fear and symptoms of illness like vomiting can zip through a crowd like wildfire when enhanced with disgusting chemical smells. A recent example of this came about five years ago when a meterorite smashed into an area in Peru, releasing noxious gas that smelled like sulfur. Thousands of people became physically ill, simply from smelling it — and then, as fear spread, people were getting ill just from seeing other people getting sick and smelling only a whiff of the gas.

Thanks for the explanation, ironyak. Much appreciated.

gypsy69 - If they do a health study, I hope they look into heavy metal sensitivities and allergies of near by residents.

In looking through the current RFP for the pending health study, heavy metal exposure is an area of focus, along with H2S, SO2, and noise.

Justin - Is there some chemical that comes only from PGV and not the volcano

The mix of chemicals in releases from PGV would likely be the very similar to gases released in the rift zone, although the concentrations of these chemicals have been shown to be much higher because of the depth of the source.

The RFP also notes a separate study, yet to be detailed, to map and model the area around PGV to help with emergency response related to any gas releases. This work is supposed to overlap the health study efforts to hopefully provide a better understanding of exposure to volcanic gases from geothermal and peak venting, as well as PGV's operations.
