Who exactly do you think is behind the fear-mongering campaign against GMO technology? All the paid shills - all the bogus articles. Someone with a lot more money than the working farmer is paying for all that...

There's some Aloha for you! What an a**! Welcome to Puna and Punaweb Newgirl.

I hear the swishing sound of Punaweb circling the toilet bowl about to be flushed.

Punaweb circling

She does ask questions along with her posts.
It seems to me she is open to new information, probably more so if offered in a friendly manner.

Heh. So I'm a loon now because I didn't accept the opinion of some conservative writer on Slate? I am a bit taken aback by the nastiness of your tone, what's in it for you that you think everyone should just accept GMO without question? I doubt you're making money from selling herbicides, but maybe you are, I don't know.

The islands' papaya experience is nothing like the industrial farming going on in the heartland, and that's not a world I would want for my kids. Even though GE could mean many methods, the one that I'm most concerned about is the use of resistances to specific chemicals. I don't dream about chickens with 6 legs, what worries me at night is the plight of one of my kids suffering from a gut disease wherein the doctor tells her that it's probably hereditary (nope, that's not it) and treats her with a shot that has a $12K price tag each time she gets one.

If you want to talk science and articles, how about a real one, not an opinion piece written by a another non-scientist?

Glyphosate’s Suppression of Cytochrome P450 Enzymes and Amino Acid Biosynthesis by the Gut Microbiome: Pathways to Modern Diseases

http://www.mdpi.com/1099-4300/15/4/1416

That one was submitted to the NIH by an honest to goodness scientist.

State preempts county, federal preempts state. The US House has passed a bill to ban mandatory GMO labeling, as recently passed by a couple of states.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/07/14/us-usa-gmo-labeling-idUSKCN0PO2MM20150714
U.S. House committee approves anti-GMO labeling law

It will probably go to the US Supreme Court. This will make all your lawyer friends happy, drinks and strippers on the house, the money starts rolling in. Why does everybody have so much problem with the government and not with the lawyers behind the scenes stuffing their pockets with fees? The title of the article shows how mangled this acronym has become with social media. GMO is a slang, street-wit term. GMO is actually Genetic Engineering. The people that are protesting it are the same ones that flunked geometry and put up a temper tantrum until geometry classes are banned. There are developments that are unfolding that may make the entire issue moot.

"Aloha also means goodbye. Aloha!"

RE: Maui GMO ban overturned - Newgirl - 07-16-2015

It passed the house, but it won't go to the Supreme Court unless it passes the Senate and the bill is signed.

Makes you wonder why they go through such lengths to hide what's in your food.

Normally I don't stop at the troll bridge, but...within a ten second google search:

http://scholarlyoa.com/2013/05/16/more-controversy-over-open-access-publisher-mdpi/

It may be that the problem with GMO's is that the organic/natural crowd left the technology to the corporations instead of using it to "do good" making foods more nutritious and pest-resistant...

Cheers,
Kirt

Except that Entropy had nothing to do with the research, they're just publishing what was submitted to the NIH.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3945755/

There is a quite a bit more at the NIH site on the topic.

I'm not against GE in general, I'm sure there's a lot of good it can do. But controlling world's commodity food source is not one of them.

Newgirl.

Happy trails...
