Tink: "Well it just disgusts me that there are no higher paying jobs"
gyspy: "Tink, thank you. I couldn't have wrote it any better"

Gypsy, you bemoan the lack of jobs and yet you try to stop a billion dollar investment to build a telescope and fund education.
How does this make sense?

The Hawaii island educational system does not educate for employment on Hawaii island.

Once the Hawaiian Kingdom is re-established, the Hawaii educated youth can compete for H1-B visas to work in the United States.

Edited: To correctly quote pahoated - sorry about missing that.

There is a different thread about the Big Island having the highest suicide rate and i think the two are conected. For someone growing up here, except for nepotism or kissing tourist butt there isn't much prospect of a solid career without moving away from the only home they have known

This is one of my disappointments with Billy Kenoi. Over $100 million in debt with Kenoi and not a nickel spent on economic development.

"Tink, thank you. I couldn't have wrote it any better[...]"

Just sums up this thread, I think.

I know a young man who just got his biology degree at UH Manoa. He's furthering his education by going after his masters.

His main focus of education has been Plant Biotech. This program has grown over the past few years at Windward Community College w/more and more students showing interest.

I was told that Plant Biotech is THE future to feeding the masses. The population keeps growing on this planet thus Plant Biotech is proactively researching to deal w/this impending issue.

Isn't Plant Biotech also referred to as GMO?

RE: Are we headed backwards culturally? - mermaid53 - 07-31-2015

Others may refer to it that way but the students in the program refer to it as Plant Biotech. They have put together an orchid recipe book and are researching plants for medicinal purposes as well. So the range of Plant Biotech varies.

We don't need more food - just another plague!

don't need more food - just another plague!

The anti-vaxxers are working on it.
In general, if most anti-vaxxers are also anti-gmo, etc, won't the earth be populated mainly with pro-science people after a major pandemic?

Which begs the question, are the leading proponents of the anti-vax movement in reality... PART OF A GIANT CONSPIRACY TO WIPE OUT THE VERY PEOPLE THEY CLAIM TO SAFEGUARD WITH THEIR SILVER TINCTURES AND WHAT NOT?

(sorry, I thought all caps looked more authentically conspiratorial)
