WOw! All these new faces in the Acres and we just moved from there down to Kapoho! We were at 7/E - then the funny shapped house on 9 & F w/ the diagonal windows!
Kinda miss the Acres some times!!!!

Seems a main concern in The Acres is the Feral Pig population and what to do about it. After a little research I too am a concerned party they make quite a mess and are very difficult to get rid of. Some of the info as follows

interesting how they impact the mosquito population and how they spread the seeds of invasive plants. I would think they would share top billing with coqui frog for irradication measures.

Aloha HA, they've been a big problem since years ago. We used to have lots of them back on G road, 1991-92, plenty pighunters too. The Acres is the perfect place for wiley wild pigs to live, plenty of wild things to eat, plenty garbage, orchard fruits, chickens, rainforest to hide in. Leilani also has lots of wild pigs. Having a hogwire fence and two dogs keeps them off our place (so far).

For the third time now I've read an MLS listing that descibed the property as being in the "Sunny Side of Hawaiian Acres" Is this a desperate attempt to sell or is there actually a sunny section of The Acres. Is it an elevation thing and if so at which elevation change does it begin to get wetter?

There is no "Sunny Side of HA" or at least there was not one when I used to spend lots of time there five years ago.

I think its a little sunnier in the back of Hawaiian Acres (toward Road F, for example) or in the lower portions, elevation-wise, like near Road 8.

Received our first Hawaiian Acres Community Association News Letter in the mail today, feeling more and more at home all the time.
Excited to hear that The Acres will be celebrating it's 45th Birthday on July 8th 2006 at the Commuity Center. Activies will include a swap meet, food and music.
Another point of interest;
If you are developing a lot along the Puna Emergency Access Road (PEAR), which runs from 8 Rd, jogs on F Rd to 9 Rd and then out the county lot to the Ainaloa Subdivision, you must get a permit for your driveway from the County Planning Dept. for more info: 808-961-8288
If you planning on bulldozing and/or grading your property, please remember that it is illegal to change the course of water flowing at the entry to your property and/or exit of your property. You may make water flow changes "only on" your property.
Also, you may or may not need a grubbing or grading permit. Check with the Planning dept.
The Soil and Water Conservation District can 808-933-8350 can help you if you join as a contributor. They will help you with a plan for your property at no cost and no permit needed. If you choose this, but do not go by the plan they help develope, you may need to deal with the County of Hawaii in the future.

So what do you think about installing a pool on a lot in Hawaiian Acres? Too chilly/rainy most of the time?
If you are living there now do you use your fireplace a lot?
Is it a must?
