RE: Growing older in Puna - PunaLover - 03-31-2016 I still find I can put in a good day's hard labor in my 50's, like today building a fence. The difference is the next day. Used to go to bed feeling totally tired and exhausted and wake up and do it all again the next day. Now I go to bed tired and exhausted and wake up the next day, so sore that I want to just roll out of bed and crawl to the bathroom rather than walk lol. Stand up and I have to take a second or three to get my bearings, let my feet and ankles quit complaining so I can walk forward without falling over. Ah, the joys of aging. RE: Growing older in Puna - imwithstoopid - 03-31-2016 With so many of you at the age of thinking about age, and so many a common sight on this form, and so many in a similar if not the same area, have you thought of taking the time to get together face to face before you say wish I'd have done that. We all are at that age where we say, where did the time go? Remember that the most valuable antiques are dear old friends. H. Jackson Brown, Jr. There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met. William Butler Yeats Don't be an sesquipedalian, Eschew Obfuscation..... Sometimes, when I see the neighborhood children make small discoveries of their own, I wish I were a child. With apologies to Dr. Seuss RE: Growing older in Puna - sistersue - 03-31-2016 I love being called "Auntie" by strangers - it's friendly. I became a grandmother at the age of 40, so being called "Nana" by everyone doesn't sound bad either. Oh, to be 40 again! RE: Growing older in Puna - TomK - 03-31-2016 I know it's policy in many places, but it sort of rankles with me that when buying alcohol I often get asked for my ID by someone less than half my age... RE: Growing older in Puna - dmbwest - 03-31-2016 Tom, you know it's coming ... Just pull it out and make the poor 7/11 girls day easier when buying your Mickeys @ 10:44 !!! LOL. peace, pog RE: Growing older in Puna - TomK - 03-31-2016 One of the cons. People or celebrities you grew up with as a kid leaving us. https://youtu.be/Cz2-ukrd2VQ RIP Ronnie Corbett. (Apologies for the British humour and/or accent). RE: Growing older in Puna - Kenney - 04-01-2016 Thanks for reorienting me Tom. I'd forgotten this was a pro/con, good things bad things thread. Turned a year older today. Yes, a genuine April Fool. My Cuz recently called me an April Jewel. Nicest thing I've ever been called. Watched Monte Python Dead Parrot this morning with my Bday Eggs Benedict that I didn't have to cook! Good things, My kids spoil me instead of the other way around. ( the Eggs Beni was soooo good!) My time is mostly my own. Instead of rushing off to work, I can listen to the birds wake up and sing the morning. Holidays, weekends and nights off!! I get to putter instead of hustle. I know who my friends are, who I can trust, who I love and who loves me, (there was some confusion in my younger years) I know I am not alone. (Mahalo ke Akua) I don't have hair growing out of my ears. Bad things Hmmmm. Maybe I can think of something tomorrow.. Happy April Fools Day every one! Time for more cheesecake... RE: Growing older in Puna - TomK - 04-01-2016 My best birthday wishes to you, Kenney! As for your breakfast, mmm eggs benedict! My favorite! RE: Growing older in Puna - Kenney - 04-02-2016 Mahalo Tom! It was fun. RE: Growing older in Puna - julieb - 04-02-2016 Con: Waking up suddenly single, not something I expected to encounter in my sixties. Just read seven widows for each widower. Just trying to figure this one out. |
