An easier to read link to the study about helicopter noise here in Hawaii;
http://web.eng.hawaii.edu/~panos/heli.htm

If they use aviation fuel (avgas) there’s lead in it;
https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/avgas/

Here’s an excerpt from a letter sent to Senators, Schatz, Hirono and House Rep. Gabbard, from our local representatives- signed by Kahele, Rudderman, Inouye, Nakashima, Tsuji, Buenaventura, Onishi.
Sorry I don’t know how to copy the entire letter which is in pdf form- I’ll transcribe the first paragraph-written Sept. 28th, 2016;

“Helicopter noise as a result of commercial air tour flights over residential areas in the East region of Hawaii island has reached unprecedented levels in recent years. Residents in Hamakua, Hilo, Mountain View, Puna, Volcano and Kau have continued to raise issues of overflights, noise complaints and safety issues with the State of Hawaii Dept. of Transportation, the Honolulu Flight Standards District office of the FAA and the air tour industry and operators. Without a doubt the #1 destination on the Hawaii island is the Volcanoes National Park.”

I am truly amazed that this has gone on for so long here. Here’s more history to a longstanding problem;

Mahalo to the Punawebbers who have sent in an e-mail. Hicop.org is determined to get back our serenity and we actually think we have a right to a quiet and peaceful home and we will try to accomplish this.

I came across this quote From Environment Hawaii posted in May 1993- 24 years ago;

To many of those who must put up with the noise, the operators profits have come at their expense. Coco Pierson may have expressed the thought most succinctly. He told Patsy Mink: “My tranquility was stolen, and somehow it reappeared as money in the pocket of the tour operators.”

Edited for brevity

Hawaiian Acres Newsletter 1962 has an entire page dedicated to the story of how we all got screwed on the roads deal.

This is not a threadjacking, merely pointing out "this thing going on for so long" is not amazing, here, not even a little: 2017 - 1962 = 55 years.

So true. Most of the 'big issues' discussed on PW are long standing issues that show no sign of being solved anytime soon.

And you miss the point. The tour helicopters don't have pitson engines that use avgas! They have turbine engines which use Jet A. Kinda like a high-end kerosene or diesel. There is NO lead in the fuel!

What if the helicopter is sacred to me and my religion?

Like a cargo cult.
But for sightseers.

I assume there are no services allowed on Sunday.
And on weekdays restricted to the hours between 7am and 6pm?
Saturday, after 9am and before 6pm?
What do we have to do to join?

tour helicopters don't have pitson engines that use avgas!

Not all helicopters are modern equipment belonging to well-funded tour companies.

No, but I have not seen any Robinson helicopters advertising 1 person tours. If they are, they probably are not licensed and permitted.

I do not know much about heli's engines and looking into it- turbine looks like the way to go.

However on this Blue Hawaiian page they show a heli that's piston powered;

RE: Hicop.org needs your help! - leilanidude - 01-17-2017

Ino. Did you read the ad copy? It is specifically trying to tell you to stay away from that type of helicopter! Blue Hawaiian does not have them.

"A piston-powered helicopter, not a turbine. It is primarily used for training and as a personal-use helicopter because of the low acquisition cost compared to a turbine powered helicopter. Seats offer good visibility, although this helicopter does not offer the performance or reliability of a turbine."

Odd that the page reads "Our Helicopters" that they don't have them. I clicked under "Our Helicopters" to get to this page.
