RE: lava economy - kalakoa - 06-25-2018 County Government is the "New Plantation". I think someone else said that. Not that it isn't true. The economy is tourism, Federal monies,and retirees. Period. With all the new lava flowing and plenty old lava everywhere, getting CocoJoes's back into production or something similar would help the lava economy with a unique Big Island product that could be sold to tourists.
