RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - kalakoa - 08-07-2018 the value of their property became zero Sounds good, I'll take three side-by-side. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 08-07-2018 A business should either adapt or move or close I saw the first building going up at the new Puna Kai Shopping Center the other day. Count the restaurants: confirmed tenants for Puna Kai are: Malama Market, Aloha Petroleum, Chef TK, Pahoa Veterinary Hospital, Black Lava Vape, L&L Drive Inn, Pizza Hut, SusHI, Under the Bodhi Tree, McDonald’s, Jeans Warehouse, Family Health and Wellness, Fitness Forever, Goodwill, Stratos New York Pizzeria, Hilo Bay Realty and Maui Tacos. O’Reilly Auto Parts, Dunkin’ Donuts and Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen are still under lease negotiations. http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2018/06/03/hawaii-news/eruption-not-affecting-puna-kai-project/ “Generalized intelligence and mental alertness are the most powerful enemies of dictatorship and at the same time the basic conditions of effective democracy.” - Aldous Huxley RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - Lodestone - 08-07-2018 I saw the first building going up at the new Puna Kai Shopping Center the other day. Count the restaurants: I can't believe they are still going ahead with that project; apparently it's too late to stop? I mean, I'd love more restaurants and a bigger Malama Market and all, but it's hard to imagine many of them not going out of business. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - 1voyager1 - 08-07-2018 Went to the council meeting today and had my say. I do not have much hope anything real will come of it. I'm waiting for the video to be available for download. Because of my poor hearing I missed almost all of the testimony of the others. Plus, I want to be able to catch the full recording of King Kim's rebuttal. Was only able to catch the end of it after getting home. What little I heard leaves me still convinced that he is continuing to spin his responses. Plus, he nicely sidestepped any responsibility by trying to make HVO the cause of all the county's actions. As we left, I saw someone in the corridor making a video recording of the meeting through the window. Does anyone know who the video was being made for? Will it be available for consumption? Jay Turkovsky is another "volunteer" that the LE HOA is very lucky to have. I know of no HOA members that are dissatisfied with his performance. The quality of the people on our HOA is a good example of what the other subdivisions should strive for. They would waste a lot less of their resources on all the drama they have going on. There has been talk among some LE residents about trying to get the ACLU involved. ironyak's posting of the link to Joseph Anthony's blog(?) in the CD Response thread, and it's reference to the ACLU's looking into things, is very heartening. While this may be unwinding, something needs to be done to make sure the state and county never try wielding this much power and control again. This should not be forgotten and swept under the rug now that it's relevance seems to be waning. They need to be stopped NOW, not after they get away with doing it again. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - ironyak - 08-07-2018 It was Big Island Video News that was recording from outside. They've already posted the video about the naming of fissure 8 from yesterday's meeting, so hopefully they'll post the segments on residents' concerns and Mayor Kim's discussion soon as well. http://bigislandvideonews.com Mayor Kim's deferring to HVO is a particularly wily tactic as they as scientists must account for low probability events and unforseen possibilities which gives the County plenty of cover for an over abundance of caution. Lava could restart anywhere at anytime (a general truth almost everywhere on island) so no returning to your homes or community center until County feels like it (but blame HVO). I know of no HOA members that are dissatisfied with his performance. ----------- Off topic but I could tell you plenty of people are very dissatisfied - he is the guy who initiated the clandestine drone program to find violators of the CCR's, then lied about doing so in a board meeting. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - leilanidude - 08-08-2018 the naming of fissure 8 ---------- It already has a name that the whole world knows. They should spend time on more important things. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - terracore - 08-08-2018 "it's hard to imagine many of them not going out of business" People will come for the McDonalds, and when they see how long the drive-through line is, some of them will eat at the other restaurants. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - glinda - 08-08-2018 People will come for the McDonalds... Pahoa's anchor tenant.. cute. RE: Leilani residents give council an earful - 1voyager1 - 08-08-2018 @ld I agree. That was a very poor decision on the part of the board. I did not follow it very closely because it was rescinded very quickly as soon as they saw it was vehemently opposed by a large number of owners. Plus, there were legal issues brought up that also made it a very poor choice. I do not know who was the originator of the idea, but until I am provided with more information, my suspicion is that another, to be unnamed board member, was responsible for bringing the idea up in an overzealous attempt to enforce CC&Rs. Additionally, I'm not sure it ever went beyond the consideration stage. As far as I'm concerned, the problem was resolved in a timely responsible manner by a board willing to correct a mistake. EDIT: Correction, I now know of one. |
