The gun issue has always been a sore point in the islands, if you aren't a cop or crook(who doesn't care anyway), handguns or even shotguns are set out as the great crime drivers! Hence, such crimes as home invasions, and other violent crimes are no riski for the perps! They know we can't defend ourselves!
If someone wants to report your shooting to the police, get a tape of a shooting range, and play short bursts on and off all day! When they complain, tell them it's a disincetive for would be theives! The noise is no worse than a car alarm!
Also, remember never to feed a dog Tylenol, it'll kill them!
When you move to most rural places, the police encourage you to be armed, as they know they won't be around to help you!

Actually, meddlesome busy-bodies who have nothing to do but lurk around looking for something to complain about, or get involved in, or needlessly bother the cops about--those people scare the crap out of me.

I'm sure gunfire in a residential neighborhood is nothing to bother the cops about in some places. Here in Hawaii it's illegal and dangerous. I've had shot land on my roof, and most geezers I know have absolutely no idea where their rounds are headed or how far they will travel when let loose.
I can't actually believe you would insult me for stating a somewhat "tongue in cheek" opinion about using lethal and dangerous weapons for animal control when there are safer, and less bothersome alternatives.
(traps, ammonia squirt guns, fences, and other non lethal devices mentioned earlier).
I'm not against guns. They are for self defense, not animal control. Why don't you look into where and when firearms are allowed to be discharged before referring to me as a "meddlesome busybody".
I am a combat veteran, rated expert with the M-16 and .38 revolver.
I've never had to shoot an animal, though I may have inadvertently blown some up on occasion.

No it isn't.
You can shoot any person intruding on your property if you feel he is a threat..... Doesn't matter where you live.
Same thing goes with a vicious dog. You have every right to defend yourself with legal force on your own property. That dog in this video was creeping up the driveway of the guys video... I'd say that was close enough to warrant not just one boot to the face... but any other means it takes to protect your children.

Hey Damon, I would defend my children also. I would do it in a way that didn't endanger my neighbors or my children.
Dog fight tip: If an aggressive animal attacks your dog; Don't get between them. Get behind the aggressor, grab his back legs and swing him as far as you can. While you have his back legs, he's at a disadvantage and your dog has a better chance.
For all you weapons enthusiests; Assemble a posse, form a circle around the dangerous animal, lock and load, let fly. *

Of course you're right, Damon. My point is that a dog coming onto your property and getting into your trash doesn't count as "life threatening".
I'll say it again very seriously; If I hear a gunshot in my neighborhood I'll call 911. Either a life threatening situation, or a firearms violation has occurred.
The police are neccesary in either case. Gunfire has the added effect of getting a faster response time.

i believe you have the right to use deadly force when you feel threatened by human or animal. i was attacked by a german shepherd (the animal not the human kind, reminds me of that commercial)and ran for my life. even hopped a fence. the dog had bitten other people on different occasions. my father went to the owner's home; told him if he didn't have the dog put down, he would do it right then and there with some kind of handgun he was carrying. the dog was put down by the humane society.
i don't think it's lawful to shoot dogs because they are running loose. i bet the person who shoots the dog gets charged with animal cruelty?[?]
