Gotta do some more learnin'.

Ethernet is just a way to frame bits onto some kind of media (twisted pair, coax, fiber, radio). Transceiver modulates the bits to match the media. SFP ("small formfactor pluggable") ports accept modular transceivers (sometimes called a GBIC).

Gigabit fiber comes in two flavors: shortwave (SX, multimode, range 550m) and longwave (LX, singlemode, range 20km). Always a pair of fibers, usually via duplex-LC connector.

Most of the connector types on this list are obsolete or specialized. The most common are LC, SC, and occasionally ST. Of course there are adaptor patches, such as when equipment has an LC but the patch bay uses ST.

My Apple Cat ][ Modem only gets 300 baud unless I'm using CatSend, and even then the 1200 baud only seems to be half duplex. Somebody told me I need a "212" card to get full duplex 1200 baud. Where do I find one?

[i]the 1200 baud only seems to be half duplex

Bell 202 FSK is also used to send Caller ID over POTS lines.

You are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike.

I remember playing that on a dumb modem terminal my friend's dad had brought home from work. Had to dial the phone and place the handset into two ear muff looking things on the modem. No monitor. There was big roll of thermal paper and and the game would scroll out on it.

You guys are giving me flashbacks. Lots of late nights on modems and in data centers fixing things. I engraved "Elbereth" on one of the raised floor tiles, just in case things got dicey...

Back on topic, this LTE connected 4K 360° camera for $55 might be useful to someone:

I won't be using a trencher to bury cables for the new video security system

Dig "trench" with string trimmer, lay schedule 80 PVC conduit, jungle will grow over it.

Available at Alpha Electric; smallest size is 3/4".
