RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-12-2019 This is representative of the protesters. Get your's now. Obie, I tried to find the direct website for the pillow/t shirt sellers, but what they have is quite generic. They claim they donate money to Aloha Aina Earth Protectors, which as far as I can tell from Google isn't a specific organization but an amalgamation of the names from various groups. So where does the money for a $25 pillow finally end up? Who knows? They have an email address listed, and hours they are open, but no phone, address, names - - nothing. Monday—Friday: 9:00AM–5:00PM Hawaiian Standard Time Is it their email that's closed after hours and all weekend? From their statement: These breathtaking views on the tallest Mountain on Earth, are so precious and sacred, visits by Native Hawaiians are done under strict protocol... the Hawaii State Supreme Court ruled that NO legal permit was ever issued, the greed and self serving multi-billion dollar profit margins that telescopes charge their customers, continues to fuel a destructive agenda on the innocent people, children, water and most sacred space Are the laser beams striking down the innocent? RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - randomq - 07-12-2019 Probably someone in California making a buck off of stupid people. RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 07-12-2019 And so the protests begin, this Sunday 7/14: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10218681126396639&set=a.10203057528776463&type=3&theater RE: TMT construction begins Monday 15 July - TomK - 07-12-2019 quote:Dan - this is my second and last attempt to try and dissuade you from doing what you propose. Having pro-TMT supporters anywhere near the anti-TMT protesters is a Bad Idea. All the current observatories do not want this to happen as having two opposed groups in such close proximity has great potential for things getting out of control. If this happens, then all you end up doing is putting yourself at risk of arrest and will make things so much worse for the current observatories and their staff. Please reconsider. Mahalo! As the project moves into its building phase, we thought it would be appropriate for another TMT sign waving and show of community support. Let’s get a big crowd of supporters for this Monday, July 15 starting at 4:30 pm on Kanoelehua Avenue fronting Walgreens. Bring your smiles and homemade signs if you have them. We will have banners, signs and a large supply of “IMUA TMT” T-shirts for everyone. TMT Supporters Sign Waving 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm Monday, July 15 Kanoelehua Avenue fronting Walgreens in Hilo I look forward to gathering with you again to show the community the widespread support for TMT. I agree with Dan that supporters should not shy away at this juncture, and I agree with Tom that the less people on the mountain during the construction phase the better for all. I don’t think a counter protest would instigate any violence from the ‘aloha aina’ minded ‘protectors’. Tom, I think your thoughts on this matter are coming from a good place, yet I can’t help but point out the irony of a Brit suggesting limitations on public protest to an American - surely you jest. |
