RE: Keaau PO - If You’re Part Of The Problem... - terracore - 06-05-2021

Here's my "USPS Greatest Hits" for this week:

Earlier this week I opened my PO box and there was a box jammed into it so tightly I couldn't wiggle it out. The Box is narrower in the front than it is in the back because of the door hardware. There was literally no way to remove the box from the box, so I had to wait in line to get somebody to pull it out from back, along with all my mail that was behind it.

Check out this tracking information. Priority Mail from Arizona to Hawaii is getting routed through Guam?

In late 2019, Amazon stopped using FedEx for package delivery. It seems that most of those packages suddenly were dumped onto the USPS system. Couple that with changes made to decrease service delivery speeds, equipment and staffing by Louis DeJoy as head of the post office, and you have Keaau post office employees shouldering the burden of all of this. Please have some compassion for the people whose job responsibilities (and stresses brought on by the pandemic) have only increased over time with no corresponding increase in pay.
The large cluster package boxes at the PO will help ease the burden a bit once they are keyed. If your neighborhood/development has cluster boxes, consider purchasing the four section very large package clusters. We have had 9 of them installed in Seaview and it has eliminated many, many, many trips to the PO for packages.

The situation at the Keauu Post Office far predates DeJoy and the Amazon changes. The workers there have demonstrated attitudes ranging from indifference (about the best we experienced) to incompetence to outright hostility going back well beyond a decade. Frau Chunkster and I got a box in Hilo and drive twice as far just to avoid them.

That's been my experience as well.

Please have some compassion for the people whose job responsibilities (and stresses brought on by the pandemic) have only increased over time with no corresponding increase in pay.

What additional responsibilities would that be?  They still sell stamps, ship boxes, and look for boxes in the back when we pick up.  With only two people allowed in the lobby at a time, and if they each wear a mask without incident, what additional stresses do workers have?  Workers punch in at the same time every morning, punch out at the same time after their shift.  What I observe is that their job has never changed no matter how long people stand in line outside.  Have you ever seen a Keaau Post Office employee speed up when the line outside loops around the building and reaches the back fence?  Every time I've been there it's steady as she goes, in first gear.  It doesn't seem to occur to them that if they picked up the pace even a little their customers would accomplish their business in less time.  And talk about stresses brought on by the pandemic, what about lining up postal patrons in a linear COVID cluster for extended periods of time, the length of exposure determined by one factor, the PO desk clerk.  To improve on that situation post office clerks would have to work faster, even a little faster - - but what's their incentive?  They punch in, punch out, get paid the same whether we're in line for 30 minutes, or an hour and a half.

If I worked at their pace, I would have put myself out of business long ago.  If I worked at their pace I would have considered it a paid vacation.

Agree with this statement. I pay almost $140/year (and that goes up EVERY year, was under $80 when I started several years ago) for a box in Hilo rather than deal with the drama of a free box in Keaau.  Though, I am inclined to believe that a lot of the difficulties at that location are due to the logistics of dealing with a facility that is completely inadequate for their mission.  I lost any compassion for the employees there after being on the receiving end of their very vocal bad attitudes.  Granted, that was several years ago, so things may have changed.  The Hilo station has it's share of fumbles, but most of the employees have excellent attitudes towards the "customers".

Amazon didn't dump FedEx so much as FedEx fired Amazon as a customer. FedEx is an airline and the company operates as such. When Amazon started their own airline FedEx was done with them. Their attitude was, let the ground transportation companies deal with the "last mile" delivery. The USPS is FedEx's largest customer. A lot of those Amazon packages are still flying on FedEx jets as USPS packages. FedEx gets to move the freight as the airline they are at a profit, and let somebody else grind out the nearly-zero profit of ground delivery. It was a brilliant move, actually.

USPS does it again... sent out 3 father's day gifts in USPS Priority "2-3 day" packaging 10 days ago to the west coast.

1 arrived in time for the holiday, the other 2 are, "Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility."

The gift that arrived is less than 10 miles away from one that was misplaced.

F-

If there was a lower score available than an F-, I would consider using it. It's my fault for even considering that they could deliver something 3x past their delivery estimate.

Lesson learned. No wonder people email their gifts.

So did I send gifts out to 3 dads, or send one dad 3 gifts?

One day as a teenager, Jesus discovered he could turn water into wine, and came home drunk late that night. Joseph was furious and said it was time for some discipline. Jesus slurred, "you're not my father! I don't need any discipline from YOU." Jesus suddenly realized that soon he would be looking for disciples, and disciple being the root word for discipline, realized that his step-dad was right, and he promised to never get drunk again.

At least two dads, or a dad with two addresses, since one was delivered 10 miles from another... Still doesn't prove or disprove you were created by scientists in a lab though. ?
