The different beast has a planing hull and hydrofoils to lift it out of the water.
Then it becomes sea glider.
I don't understand how it could land in Hilo bay. It's a recreation area.
I can't even imagine something landing in the ocean off of Hilo Bay but as long as there are enough airsick bags it will work.

Given how well the last alternative interisland transport was received (memba the ferry), I have no hope that this one will fare any better.
