Hi Tiff,
Mary Blythe was my Doula, she emailed me about the group. I just gave birth Friday. I want to come to the group, so count me in for the next meeting. I won't be on the computer much now, for obvious reasons, but will check in here and there.
On a side note, Dr. Ebesugawa is a fine Dr. Very good at what he does. My problem with him, was the always long waits, minimum 1 1/2 hours to get in, sometimes 2 or more. I met a woman that worked there, and she said the reason for this is that he schedules patients every 5 minutes. Obviusly that's not very feasible. Also, I blame this for my first C section. When I was in labor pushing, he was busy delivering another baby at the same time, so all I had was a distressed nurse, the baby's heart rate would dip momentarilly upon contractions, which is normal, but since Dr. couldn't come and tend to me and observe what was happening, they just put me off to C section. We were so close my husband could see the head. Very frustrating. This is a problem with a Dr. that takes on SOO many patients. But if this isn't an issue for you, you will get fine care. I just gave birth at the Waimea Hospital, and I have to say it flet more like day spa than a hospital. I had great nurses, foot rubs, a 10 foot sliding glass door that looked out onto beautiful trees and flowers. It is a far drive for us folks, but from my perspective on doing both something worth checking out. Aloha, Angela

Well, wow, I guess you could say I labored in a really gnarly day spa! I had my lavendar, and having access to water was crucial. Look forward to meeting you and the bebe! [:X]

Tiffany, any idea of the cost of having the baby at Waimea? Are there payment plans available?

You'll have to call and find out. It really depends on whether or not you have insurance, etc.

Self-insured at the moment. Do you have the contact info for Waimea Women's Clinic, and anyone specific I should speak to?

I have my first appointment scheduled in Hilo already but I'll call around...

Looking forward to meeting you to Tiff. Smile

My favorite Dr. at Waimea is Jade McGaff, but she's so popular it's hard to get an appt with her. Generally how it works there is you become their patient and see a series of different drs. and midwives through out your prenatals, you're not assigned ONE Doctor. It's good to get to know the midwives since they do most of the normal deliveries. Right now I believe there are 2 Drs. on staff and 4 or 5 midwives. Dr. Lewis was a little standoffish compared to the rest of them, but he's generally ok too. I would imagine you could call the hospital and give them your insurance info and get a general quote over the phone. I'm self insured too and pay 10% copayment so I'll let you know what my bill comes to whenever I get it. There are separate bills for the hospital, drs. anesthesiologists etc...
Aloha, Angela
