RE: Owner/Builder info. - Rob Tucker - 01-31-2008 I had a client once who pulled an owner builder permit who was 88 years old and blind. A Habitat for Humanity client. Limiting the number and true use of the project is quite legitimate. For the government to make value judgments on the ability, capability or competency of permit applicants is dicey. RE: Owner/Builder info. - Hotzcatz - 02-01-2008 If it was a licensed GC then there shouldn't be any problem. It's the unlicensed folks building houses to be immediately sold which were the problem. RE: Owner/Builder info. - Kapohocat - 02-02-2008 I havent seen any test or "requirement" list for pulling an owner builder permit other than mentioned for plumbing and electric. I will incite a riot I am sure but there are times I think there should be some real requirements after seeing some total messes people have made of framing their own houses never having built before. Drywall is another one that I always tell people to have a professional do it unless you are patient and detail oriented (anal retentive is a positive quality for drywalling). If you are an OB and just all the hiring subs, that is a different animal. "We are part of an interesting group of owner-builders. We meet for breakfast every Sunday." Where do you guys meet for breakfast? Scott and I just received our building permit 1/29. We have lined up our major subs already, but it is always nice to learn from others experiences! And we are always looking for a good breakfast spot!
