RE: Building Codes... - csgray - 03-29-2008 Eden Rock, especially the farthest end from the road gets lots and lots of VOG. If you check the site below for the sulfur dioxide levels on a regular basis it always is in the VOG circle if the trades don't blow. http://www.nature.nps.gov/air/webcams/parks/havoso2alert/havoalert.cfm I would hesitate to move there with children, elderly, or anyone with asthma or any other breathing issues in my household. Beautiful area, just really close to the current volcanic activity, even if it is in zone 2 or 3, which means VOG until the volcano settles down in a few hundred thousand or million years. Kilauea will eventually become as big as Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, and the only way it will reach that height is by erupting. This really hit home for me when I read a vulcanologists report that said Kilauea would be erupting for as long as it is anticipated that humans will live on this planet. The report also said that every inch of the mountain would get recovered with fresh lava on average every 1000 years. Geologic time is a whole different time scale than we are used to thinking in, our lifetime is like a fruit fly's to a volcano. Carol RE: Building Codes... - kani-lehua - 03-30-2008 waynesb: thanks for clarifying the lots up at OE and RHE. well, i guess one could buy two lots up at mauna loa estates (MLE) to get close to an acre. but, then again, with all the vog and halema'uma'u's output, one may have to reconsider somewhere else? or, are the trades blowing the stuff towards the west? malia paha o lohe aku perhaps they will hear RE: Building Codes... - waynesb - 03-30-2008 I hear that so far the trades have been blowing all those nasty gases to Ka'u, but...? If the vog is going to drive everyone out of Volcano, I guess it's good for it to happen before I get my house built! It would be a terrible shame, though.[xx(] RE: Building Codes... - rusty h - 03-31-2008 John you must mean; so cold you would think you were in southeast Alaska! Its a hugh state -20 in Barrow (north), 25 above in fairbanks (interior) and 47 above in Juneau today (southeast). HOVE seems like a desert to me compared to the rain forest of the Eden Roc and Fern Forest areas! However there are some nice places in HOVE. RE: Building Codes... - John S. This doesn't address how strict the codes are enforced on BI, but is a terrific resource for specific chapters in the IBC and IRC. I work for an architect mainland and use this website a lot. There are even topics posted regarding BI projects occasionally. Good luck on the design and build. |
