RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - topograph - 08-12-2009 Bullwinkle- not sure when was the last time you were at Aloha mixed Plate, but I live one block away and after trying it twice, never again. Not horrible, just marginal and overun with tourists. I do love the Thai place in Hilo, but haven't been in a couple of years. Is it sill there? RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - Blakeyboy1 - 08-12-2009 quote: Yeah John that's what I'm taking about! There is a German deli 1/2 a block from our condo and while we don't indulge frequently we always love the Wiener Schnitzel when we do. And don't forget the SpƤtzle! -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - Bullwinkle - 08-12-2009 I was there about three months ago, many fond evenings. Basic food but the first row of tables and fun local staff. I always go for the stir fry, roll in late ish after the show next door ends to avoid the crowds. Always find it tasty and good value. I always hit the gazebo for breakfast too... Gerry does a great job out there ..... got me thinking about spending the week end now - grin RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - missydog1 - 08-12-2009 Which Thai place in Hilo, topograph? I can think of at least four. There is a sign I passed on Maka'ala street this week advertising the coming of "Hilo Drive In" to an industrial strip of business there on the block mauka of Hwy 11, no idea what that will be. Local plate most likely. RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - force - 08-12-2009 What I want more than anything is a red lobster. I also have fond memories of q'dobas from back home, but maui tacos does an ok job of filling that void. Matt RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - Blakeyboy1 - 08-12-2009 Force baby do you really live in the middle of the Pacific and dream of a Red Lobster? Really? I don't even know where to go with this. -Blake http://www.theboysgreatescape.blogspot.com/ RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - David M - 08-12-2009 Schweineschnitzel = pork David Ninole Resident RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - lenwink - 08-13-2009 I believe Red Lobster & Olive Garden are both owned by the Darden Company....so if the original poster got his way and an Olive Garden opened, A red Lobster may also open right next door, as on the Mainland. Opening these restaurants would employ 100's of local people PLUS lower eating out costs so many more could afford to eat out more often. quote: RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - Bullwinkle - 08-13-2009 In the olive garden genre... the Mimi's and my favorite Hoff's Hut - great bakery. Mortons or a Ruth's Chris wouldn't be bad either for that occasional steak urge RE: New restaurants I'd like to see on the Big Island - EightFingers - 08-13-2009 Olive Garden <koff koff>, Applebees <yuck>, Red Lobster are NOT what they were 10 years ago! I used (operative word: used) to go to all these places often in the past. Now, the food is bland (except for O.G.'s salad dressing which is so bitter I almost gag), and the places smell like moldy carpet. (I can only imagine what they'd be like in Puna, damp as it is). Lots of shortcuts in the food prep and service is poor on a GOOD day. So... Be careful what you wish for! |
