One of the best beach/snorkle spots west side is Crescent beach or dog beach. South side of Honokahau Harbor. Sand entry and good fish life for snorkling. A rare combo. A pretty good SCUBA shore dive too. Surf can be a problem there. Warnings are high the next week or so, so watch that. There is a short walk across the boulders to the beach. This is the only off-leash dog beach that I know of on island too.

Surf report today noted an extended period of high leeward swell due to a massive cyclonic storm in the NW Pacific. Current Vapor image of NW Pacific:
