RE: Great places to eat - Chuysmom - 11-22-2011 Aloha Punafish! Many of the locals that I worked with at the State Bldg. head to Ichiban for sushi for lunch. It is ono as well! [] AND - don't forget Kawamoto on Kilauea across from the courthouse! Oh mah - bust da jaw good! Cash only and before 11:30am or noon. They are closed by that time. It's the one marked the Vegetable Store. Tempura shrimp, purple sweet potato, green beans, zucchini, hash, chicken katsu, ono, and so much more. It's a real treat to go there! Take-out only and worth every penny. Good prices.[] RE: Great places to eat - csgray - 11-22-2011 Has anyone tried the BBQ truck parked at the Pahoa feed and garden store? I'm an omnivore, married to a vegan, so I like to get my meat fix away from home. Carol RE: Great places to eat - Royall - 11-22-2011 For 200 bucks I'll fix a great dinner for two!!! BTW.... the Christmas parade and Cookie exchange is on Dec. 10th. I think Carey is having a bad day!! lol Royall Hale O Na Mea Pa`ani RE: Great places to eat - Carey - 11-22-2011 OK, I fix my boo-boo's...it was midnight last night...whadya expect??? I will vouch for the talents of the Royall Baker, and you may even get some of his ono grinds at either of the Punaweb potluck style events! RE: Great places to eat - DTisme - 11-22-2011 Our regular haunts: For high-end yumminess go to Kaleo's in Pahoa - always mouth-watering and their lilikoi cheese cake is to die for ...The Ponds in Hilo is always dependable ... as is Ken's - best breakfast imho and fun to yell "SUMO" when the bell rings ... Drive up to Onomea Bay and get a fish wrap & smoothie at What's Shakin', about a mile past the Botanical Gardens - biggest sleeper is Freddie's in Hilo (left-hand door leads to the sit-down restaurant) ... best Mexican food is Luquin's in Pahoa - get the taco salad - And I second the good food at Full Moon in downtown Hilo. Scrumptuous vegetarian food's at Cafe Ono/Volcano Garden Arts in Volcano (end of the road that Volcano Lodge is on). Try the spinach lasagna. RE: Great places to eat - DanielP - 11-22-2011 Try: volcanoguesthouse.com For grinds: Kiawe Kitchen, Volcano RE: Great places to eat - pslamont - 11-23-2011 I find Kilauea Lodge very pricey with disappointing food for dinners. However their lunch menu is very good and well presented with reasonable prices to boot! If you like authentic Mexican (not TexMex), Reubens is great. Pescatore, the Italian Seafood restaurant in town in excellent. Hilo Bay Cafe has never disappointed us. Last but not least, Kiawe Kitchen in Volcano, tiny though it is, has some of the best food to be offered on the mountain. Everthing on the mountain is a little pricey but well worth it with a quaint atmospere and great food. I want to be the kind of woman that, when my feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "Oh Crap, She's up!" RE: Great places to eat - Carey - 11-23-2011 Emma's during the workday (8-2M-F) in the first building south -Lft - in Shipman Industrial has good Mexican, along with fresh tortilla from the tortilla factory I have always enjoyed the food at Ohia Cafe in Vocano - outdoor seating but some ono bakery goods, soups and sandwiches at a reasonable price. RE: Great places to eat - Kapohocat - 11-23-2011 venturing out further - dont miss the 50's Cafe in Laupahoehoe. Chris's mom makes da kine pies.
