medication for fevers and flu-like symptoms

Had to stop by Walmart to top-off some items and while perusing the over-the-counter medications I watched a lady clear the shelves of over a dozen bottles of the generic guaifenesin (an expectorant). Her cart had several things of lysol wipes, bleach, etc... as well.

Phil Collins chimed in with this insight on the drive home - an essential addition to any pandemic prepper's playlist.

I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord
And I've been waiting for this moment for all my life, oh Lord
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight, oh Lord, oh Lord

coronavirus-fears-prompt-200-foot-surgical-mask-to-be...

Well, all things considered, the poor Westerdam did start sneezing, and there are concerns the ol' gal may be showing the first signs of having a fever.. and what with her age an' al' some are concerned about any kine lung condition... So yeah, I think they were right in making her wear a mask. At least while in port.

Its all fake news. They dont call it television programming for nothing. When will people start to think for themselves and just look at what is going on.

The Asymmetric (unlike anything else) reaction from China to this "common cold" this little sniffle is unlike anything we have seen before or done by any nation. If you subscribe to the data and the numbers being reported from China a country with a population over a billion people and a mere 1000 deaths after 30+ days it should be obvious to even the most ignorant that its a highly unusual reaction in dealing with a cold.
Why would China put their entire economy at great peril if this was just a common sniffle. a common cold. Something to be scoffed about.

Aside from all the things that are going on here stateside. The reports of people who returned to Japan mean that the virus has hit the islands. As previously mentioned likely already in the wild. CDC has already said to such. It is now matter of trying to reduce spread of infection. Because, if they cannot, and even 10% of the infected people become sick then it will overload the medical system. This is why you see people hedge on buying expectorants and stuff because they know that if such an event happens that people may very well have to self treat their pneumonia.

I bet if you go down to the feed store you wont find one bit of antibiotics either. The race is on for a vaccine or for people many perhaps, to ride this storm out.

Cognitive dissonance kills.. This is not normal by any metric.
Make some hot whiskey and honey and sip on it as an old time remedy for colds. It makes you get rest and the Alcohol helps the sore throat. Aside from a real vaccine better than placebo.
Were going to get through this, even if were half drunk.

Yeah, let's see if we can panic people a bit more, always fun to watch eh?
Meanwhile the yearly flu kills tens of thousands every year, many don't care, many don't even bother getting the vaccine.

ETA: Early days but a good sign. Maybe we will be spared this on the Big Island.

Its all fake news.

That’s what is called a false equivalency.
If you find out some “news” reports are wrong, or fake, you believe all news must be fake.
In reality some news is accurate and real.

100% of the "official" news coming out of China is released by the Communist party. Look at their track record and draw your own conclusions.

RE: Wuhan Corona Virus Coming Soon? (Now Here) - kander - 02-15-2020

Oh I dont doubt that some of it is real. But considering some of the whoppers the public has been told over the past few decades it becomes easy to distrust. you know WMD's in Iraq. Russians are coming.. train people to act on emotion over logic. or any other agenda with purpose to fracture society or promote war.

Regardless. The virus most certainly here.. floating around with a wide spectrum of presentation. Anything from a "mild sore throat" to full on respiratory distress. People who experience the former are not at all likely to see an MD. They will still be going about their normal lives unaware. Just another day living with microbes.

No reason for fear. It is what it is.

I don't disagree that this is probably "fake news" which is why I prefaced my post with "fake news". But many of the "fake news" articles coming out from this disaster have later proven to be true.
