RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - Guest - 09-19-2013 The above few comments speak directly to the insanity this issue consistently brings to the table of logic. On one hand we have a male chauvinistic pig commenting on the weight of a female officer - which - to this subject matter - is totally irrelevant. Then on the other hand, we have a poster who clearly must be a Police Officer discussing mandatory MOPEDS as well as proposing ONE single taxpayer foot the bill to buy a fleet of Police cars for each and every member of the force. As for potentially leaving here and moving to a another location where the obvious Police Officer above claims you may get shot, how soon we forget about Hawaii County's Officer of the Year John Webber, who violated so many rules, he was not only forced to leave, but forced into an undisclosed location unable to be subpoenaed for any case he was the arresting officer of. And let's not forget the ones who beat up a well known Blogger for taking pictures and videos. Not only are they "no longer on the force" but the County had to belly up and pay out damages in that one! When the blinders of ignorance, the shackles of greed can come off and the purity of common sense can prevail, then and only then can we get somewhere. As for any Police Officer who thinks they may be getting screwed over by a County Owned Fleet potential, let me tell you, New York City is hiring! RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - Carey - 09-19-2013 Ourdoc, I presented the marked vs unmarked differences ONLY because to compare the costs of the 2 would REQUIRE that the 2 are comparable, which they are not, & I provided the links. The county has specs for the marked vehicles are some of the most stringent and expensive of any police dept. ANYWHERE (even without the recording equipment that YOU posted was in most vehicles, woulda been nice for you to provide documentation on that!), yet the vehicle requirements that the officers use to select an unmarked personal subsidized vehicle have no where NEAR the specs of the marked vehicles.... Please read the REASONS given by the dept. for those very stringent specs on the links... why would the dept. not use those same reasons to require higher vehicle standards for the personal subsidized vehicles??? If they did, THEN a comparison of the costs of each program could be made.... RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 09-19-2013 I would like to see a 10 year comparison of fleet costs vs personal subsidized costs. The high initial purchase cost for the entire fleet would then be averaged in over a longer time period, when cars are retained for several years and smaller numbers are brought into the fleet from year to year. Also, there must be some discount when buying a fleet of cars, which an individual officer wouldn't receive from a car manufacturer. RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - Guest - 09-19-2013 Any cost comparisons has to first consider if you buy a "take home" fleet versus that of a "1/3" fleet. With the allowance, you are in effect buying a total "take home" fleet. If the County provided the fleet, it would only need 1/3 the amount of cars. RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - Carey - 09-19-2013 HOTPE, the links have some of that, unfortunately, a larger proportion of the marked fleet were terminated way early due to ....ummm.... 'maintenance' issues.... see the links.... This was, in part, because these cars were not treated the same way the subsidized vehicles were, even with (or maybe because of) their higher cost safety equipment... (also interesting was the fact that even with the marked vehicles, the officers driving them still received their vehicle subsidy...) RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - kalakoa - 09-19-2013 Wait, wasn't D2K the guy with his hands in everyone's pockets because we're all "cheating on our property taxes"? At least now we know what the money was for... RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - kalakoa - 09-20-2013 I think we can all agree that the current taxation isn't "fair". However, it would also seem that nobody can agree on what "fair" actually is. Personally, I think I am already paying "enough" for the "services received"; I might be willing to pay more at such time as County can provide "better" services. This, however, requires the consent and consensus of the governed, not a single-handed vigilante tax hike. RE: why do the police here have such fancy rides? - Bullwinkle - 09-20-2013 Meanwhile while traveling up interstate 5 on the mainland a few weeks ago - I automatically slowed down for every orange charger that came up the rear view mirror.... Using "stock" vehicles makes us all more aware of traffic.... Pavlov was right.... |
