RE: Good Sushi joint - ericlp - 03-23-2013 Thanks for the great review. I'll be there this Thursday for lunch! Maybe we can get a Punaweb sushi gig going! RE: Good Sushi joint - LeeE - 03-23-2013 Pele's Kitchen in Pahoa, (adjacent to the Pahoa Village Cafe), has a sushi chef. Haven't tried it, but if it's as good as the rest of the meals I've had there, it should be ono. Here's the number, from urbanspoon.com. 808) 935-0550 Lee Eisenstein http://members.cruzio.com/~lionel/event "Be kinder than necessary, as everyone you meet is engaged in some kind of strudel." RE: Good Sushi joint - cwaters - 03-24-2013 Ate at Pele's Kitchen yesterday. Rally good food, susi and wonderful owners who give good service! Support them so we can have this good resturant in Pahoa. RE: Good Sushi joint - LeeE - 03-24-2013 We first tried it out, three weeks ago. Been back several times, since. Their chef bakes his own bread, makes his own deserts and they are ono! I think they are serving dinners, Friday and Saturday, but I'd call them, to check. Lunches too, business days. RE: Good Sushi joint - Bill - 04-09-2013 I have been to Sweet Thunder Fusion Sushi four times now and have been totally pleased, even though it is not technically sushi, in the Japanese style. Their summer rolls are a real taste treat with ingredients not expected, such as spicy Ahi, Avocado, onion, crab, cream cheese, and more. I can't wait to go back. Bill RE: Good Sushi joint - Aliismc - 04-11-2013 Surprised no one has mentioned the small sushi bar on 14 Furneaux Ln near bayfront downtown hilo. I have lived in Japan for 9 years and love sushi. I like the one in pele's kitchen and also Sushi Kime On Furneaux Ln or St. The chef and his wife are from Japan but do speak English. It is a small place and limited hours but every trip there has had me wanting to return. go to google earth maps and type in the address or try the following: http://www.yelp.com/biz/sushi-bar-hime-hilo RE: Good Sushi joint - Carey - 04-11-2013 OOPs did forget HIME! they are good...but sometimes getting a seat is... complicated... & HCE is also one to consider... Has anyone tried the brand new sushi joint across from Miyos new location??? Just noticed it while looking for MM eating.... Takenoko Sushi on Hinano... May need to try it before the UH-H performance this weekend... RE: Good Sushi joint - punafish - 04-11-2013 Hime is okay, but on the high side for what you get. My problem with Hime is I've only gone twice and had bad experiences both times. The first time they served us decent sushi with absolutely no aloha, no friendliness. (Even though my wife is a Japanese national, go figure.) When we left we didn't get a thank you. Thinking they were just having a bad day we decided to give them a second try...and the second time was not a "charm." We walked in, were the only ones in the the shop (which is about the size of a large walk-in closet), and were completely ignored by wife and husband for several minutes. Feeling uncomfortable we got up, left, and never returned. Either hubby and wife were fighting, or they just didn't like my pasty Irish face. Either way, can't recommend them. |
