RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - pam jones - 08-27-2013 Here's a scenario nobody has mentioned: would you want to live next door (average sized lot, not the one acre and bigger lots many or most of us have here) to a home that was wired by a non-professional? Ever come home from college to see your home burnt to the ground due to faulty wiring?? I have and it sucked the wind right out of my sails. We didn't even consider compromising on electric or plumbing, even though we helped both men in their duties (me: lunch maker and goffer) and Ralph was the biggest assistant. We know people who spend as much money to ''buy the license" as it would be to just have it done professionally (fully recognizing that to be a very lose term). We built EVERYTHING else ourselves but as we say in the airline biz, not doing it (plumbing and electric) right was a no go item! RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - Carey - 08-27-2013 SputNut go to 19.509436,-154.95847, then look to the next lot North.... The bright green roofs are Pahoa Fire & Police, the house to the north with the dark green roof.......look in the back yard .... yup! ;~) RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - sputnut - 08-27-2013 UNbelievable! comin' your way soon! RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - Carey - 08-27-2013 Actually these are officially "Show Game Roosters" and, although there are no "Game Rooster Shows" here, there is a very active export market from here... dealing in "Show Game Roosters".... Here is a fairly well written background, inc. the fact that there is a scant trace of evidence that there possibly could have been a little bit of cock fighting prior to western contact, but the main infrastructure is only about 100 year old, with the huge popularity of the sport within the immigrant populations to Hawaii: http://www.oahuislandnews.com/index.php/feature/comments/one-thousand-years-of-wild-oahu-roosters/ RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - sputnut - 08-27-2013 I copied this from another thread... It was written by me to clarify my position... I guess I should make myself more clear. While I find cockfighting repulsive I really do not care if someone wants to do it. That is between him and the govt. his conscience and God. I am not one to butt in. BUT... When they interrupt my personal space with unnecessary noise, such as birds crowing at all hours in a residential area (don't care how it is zoned, HPP is residential)I suddenly have a problem with that neighbor. They are being inconsiderate self centered jerks ( to put it mildly) If you want to raise them, buy a kapua farmlot and keep them in the middle. Why should the rest of us have our piece of paradise we spent a lot of money on ruined by this intrusion? I would not be a happy camper if they moved near me, and I am not ashamed to say so. I would do whatever I could to get them to move on.( constantly barking dogs would be included as there is no excuse for it either.) I show respect for my neighbors right to peace and privacy and expect the same. I wouldn't weedwhack or mow at 6 am for the same reason. It's the noise pollution that I would have a problem with. Pull out their little vocal cords and I wouldn't care. This is one case where a little CCR is a good thing, so long as the busybodies who usually make them up don't go crazy telling me what colors I can paint my house or something. comin' your way soon! RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - jlgerk - 08-28-2013 Q: What is the zoning in HPP? A: Hawaiian Paradise Park is zoned "Ag-1" (Agricultural 1 acre) RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - kalakoa - 08-28-2013 Noise level allowed in Ag zoning: 70db. When allowed: 7x24x365. Coqui mating call: up to 90db. RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - Kapohocat - 08-28-2013 This is about the dumbest thing the state/county did. The inspectors are there for a reason. They are supposed to inspect. If the only reason for having someone licensed is for safety, then this becomes an if/then question. If must be licensed installer for safety, then what do we pay inspectors for? Cant have both. Oh wait in the county of hawaii, yes we get to waste money both directions. It is not about safety. It is about contractors retaining control and $$$$'s. RE: Do it yourselfers are hamstrung? - sputnut - 08-28-2013 I will take up chainsaw art at 1 A.M. That's what I mean. On the side of my property where the rooster farmer lives, right on the property line. If they look like they are enjoying a quiet afternoon or taking a nap or having friends over, here we go with the chainsaw art!! VVRRROOOOMMM VROOOOM! Target practice with a nail gun sounds fun as well.POW! POW! POWPOWPOWPOW!! I understand there are feral roosters, and not much I can do about them, but not 30 right next door every morning! That's quite inconsiderate, don't you think? There HAS to be something one can do. All I want is the ability to enjoy my property and I will let them enjoy theirs, that's all. comin' your way soon! |
