Does anyone have information on buying clubs in the area? I signed up for an established one at one of the first Lava meetings but haven't heard from them. Everyone's hip to the Costco/Walmart online pharmacies I suppose?

Being fed-up with what really smacks of bait and switch tactics from Safeway (different location but same song as before), I went next door to Target and was fairly shocked at how much bang I got for the buck! Five or six bags of groceries, not junk, for $130.00!! This was before the new year and we still have plenty to eat! The Keau'u farmers market is famous for filling my bag for less than $10.00! Try doing that at any of the grocery stores here! Probably impossible! And, unlike Safeway, they won't charge $2.67 for a single local grown tomato! [Wink]

There is no comparison between Target and Safeway. Target is cheaper every time. There are few exceptions like the teaser sale items and a few other items. On the other hand, Safeway has real meat and produce sections. Just more groceries overall.

I justify 60 dollar membership fee plus gas to get and back to shop at Costco for raisins (eat them every day) and Toilet Paper, Trash Bags, and some other items like 6 lbs bag of frozen strawberries for 9 bucks. etc...etc... But it would be really great if one of us with a truck, could go shopping for us. Yes, we would have to split the cost of gas 4-6 ways and membership cost and pay up and up with cash but in the end it would be worth it. Extra's would go to driver for free gas and membership and tips.

One could almost make a business out of a costco run if they had a van. Every 2 weeks or every month, get your order in for what you need... Pay up front. Type of thing. But even those large 4lbs box of raisins on amazon I think they want 20 bucks Costco is still has em for under 10 bucks. I did the math and for how many I buy it's a wash with membership fee's. Can't beat costco value for toilet paper and trash bags. Not sure what else other stock up on at costco that can't be beat in hilo and or shipping from Amazon.

Mullein, aka the toilet paper plant and campers wash cloth, soft and fuzzy. Grows like a weed here at sea level, not sure in other areas. It has a medicinal constituent that helps heal hemorrhoids and is antibacterial. You can also make a tea from the new leaves of a young plant, excellent for lung congestion from the vog or smoke.

It also can be used as a polstice for poison oak, poison ivy or other plants that make you itch, as well as hornet and bee stings and spider bites. Great stuff.

I've seen mullein growing along the saddle road up on top.

It is a super weed tree, very prolific. Clearly meant to be used as TP.

I redeemed my first http://www.restaurant.com/ gift certificate today. I paid $2.20 for a $10 gift certificate for Papa'a Palaoa Bakery in Hilo. For some reason I was unable to view or print the certificates on Firefox but I was able to view and print them on Internet Explorer.

Once printed the certificates did show some further restrictions such as you must buy $20 at the bakery -the web site says $10. You can only use 1 certificate per month. I'm OK with the new restrictions, hopefully they stay in business a long time. So I bought 4 loaves of bread worth $21 for $13.20 using the certificate. And everything I have had from there is delicious! Tin Shack Bakery's next!
