Power is back on in Pahoa. Lost my car cover. It survived Hurricane Iselle but it did not make it through today's gusts. Trees going down around Pahoa too from time to time.

Super windy in Mtn view. A few trees down since yesterday. Supposed to die down this evening. We're on solar so we never lost power.

Was down in Hilo this morning and it was fairly calm.

Should be another epic sunset Wink

Click on the animated "wind lines" and you can get sustained wind readings (in km/h)...

Railroad Ave Re-Opens As Downed Trees, Power Lines Block Kahakai - See more at: http://www.bigislandvideonews.com/2015/02/14/railroad-ave-re-opens-as-downed-trees-power-lines-block-kahakai/#sthash.VHQm9DST.dpuf

PUNA, Hawaii – The Railroad Avenue emergency access route has been re-opened, as high winds have toppled trees and power lines on Kahakai Boulevard above Keonepoku school in Hawaiian Beaches/Shores.

The road, which was constructed as an alternate access in and out of Puna when the June 27 lava flow approached Highway 130, was opened on December 20, 2014 but then closed again a shirt time later to do some needed maintenance and to preserve the road until it was needed again.

High winds are being reported across the Big Island right now, especially in Puna and North Hawaii. A number of power outages have been reported. HELCO crews are working hard to restore power to affected areas.

Railroad is open and clear to/from Beaches to Makuu. This is the first test of what will be hundreds, if not thousands of cars. Wasn't too bad, only can do about 25, very dusty, most of the grade is flat and hard but easy to see where potholes are going to start. The views along that road are incredible, magnificent views of Mauna Kea. Thank goodness there is an emergency road there now.
