RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - kalakoa - 03-02-2015 The percentage of bikers as compared to the total numbers of visitors (millions) is small. If we systematically alienate all possible tourism, we won't have to worry about that problem either. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-02-2015 If we systematically alienate all possible tourism Yes, there does seem to be a plan behind this, and a list. I think snorkelers are next. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - pbmaise - 03-02-2015 At the bed and breakfast we always know when a police officer is staying by the way they drive. When a child is run over crossing the road you don't hear people talking about road conditions. Where are the cell phone records to see if this guy was busy texting or talking on the phone? RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - Guest - 03-02-2015 In that area where the accident happened looks to be just awful for any kind of pedestrian use. I don't think some would feel safe even hitch hiking on that stretch of highway. The victim in this case was a very strong bike rider with a lot more experience than the officer had in driving his car. Many more bikers wheel through that area than police officers, or at least 15 years ago when I use to ride that section, it use to be that way. Now with the police pay raises and added officers that may not be the case. We need bike lanes on many of our roads, also a few more officers on horses to combat our states fossil fuel problems, jmo. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - kalakoa - 03-02-2015 We need bike lanes on many of our roads Can't afford it; all that money went for staff raises. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - Guest - 03-02-2015 P.Maise, you bring up a valid point regarding phone and text messages. My intuition tells me the officer may have not only been at fault for the accident, may have also acted irresponsible handling it afterwards. Wonder if anyone called in a hit and run, or man down, prior to the first recognized official call in or report? Unless the victims family sues and I mean really sues, this really won't amount to much, or even change any parts of our highways for the better or safety for our thousands of cyclists. After closely following the handling of just a couple other suspicious accidents like the Mathison and Mossman past accidents that also happened along our highways, This won't amount to much more than some paid leave with some already served community service. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-02-2015 Unless the victims family sues and I mean really sues, this really won't amount to much Then the county will have even less money to widen roads. That stretch of highway will not end up with a million dollar bike lane, but a $100 "No Bikes" sign. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - kalakoa - 03-02-2015 That stretch of highway will not end up with a million dollar bike lane, but a $100 "No Bikes" sign. You forgot the $1.5M study regarding "pavement options" and the $300K work crew for "sign installation". RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - Guest - 03-02-2015 Simple solution, add two more Ormat owned geothermal plants and rename our county to something more suitable to who is running it. Jmo. RE: Cop said sun was in his eyes, as he kills tourist - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 03-02-2015 and the $300K work crew for "sign installation". With all of the international arrivals, probably best to have two signs, the second one with a bike symbol inside of a red circle and diagonal slash. They'll need a study to reach that conclusion as well. Should double the cost. |
