Seems like the presidential campaign is about Hawaii by default. OK, there was no big Trump rally in Puna, despite a lot of the haole transplants being far right wingers. It needs to be addressed, there was this big Republican Tea Party fanaticism here a few years ago. It peaked, popped and imploded. Same way with all the emotion filled protesting, peaks, pops, implodes, back to BAU. Just because it is emotion hyperdriven on PW doesn't indicate it means squat in the "outside" world. Yes, Puna is around 45,000 (including children, elderly, mentally disabled, felons, etc. that can't vote) but the past elections show about 2,000 voting voters. Also, using the general population number as some kind of competition with the Hilo area is a silly effort. Just because Puna always sides with the organic appearing underdog has little to do with final results.

Times are a'changing.
This next election will be the first in many years with no traffic backup at the old Highway 130 merge, the favorite location for sign wavers in the past. Now in order to attract the attention of the "elderly, mentally disabled" voter speeding by at 45 mph, campaign staffs had best order larger signs for the vision impaired older folks and the slightly more psychologically distracted mentally disabled demographic.

In the 2014 primary, which was the Iselle election, which probably reduced the number of votes by some unknown percentage, there were over 3,000 votes cast. In 2012 (the last election I could easily find numbers for) there were 8,200 registered voters in all of the Puna district and almost 4,000 people voted in just 2 Puna precincts, HPP and Keonopoko. So claiming only 2,000 people vote in all of Puna is just another case of "making stuff up" to prove your point.
