RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - HereOnThePrimalEdge - 02-10-2016 I personally don't think I could ever shoot anyone. Perhaps it would be a deterrent, in some ways, if criminals knew that homeowners at least had that option. ... Reading the Big Island Thieves FB page was an eye opener, there are a lot of guns being stolen from homes and businesses! It sounds like owning a gun is less of a deterrent, and more of an encouragement for burglars to break in and steal a valuable item. "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." -Annie Dillard RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - shockwave rider - 02-10-2016 [quote It sounds like owning a gun is less of a deterrent, and more of a valuable item worth breaking in for. [/quote] Years ago I lived next door to a cop in a state that had very loose gun laws and an official estimate that 4 out of every 5 homes had a firearm. My neighbor told me about busting a burglary ring that was following home people with NRA stickers in their windows from shopping malls. They then had entirely different people case the places for weeks, and a third crew would then break in when no one was home and steal all the guns. They never took anything else, no jewelry or electronics, just guns and ammo, even whole gun safes when they knew the family had left for vacation. The guns were used for a lot of crimes and the ring only got busted when a girlfriend got busted for a bad check and rolled over on the whole group to get off. No honor among thieves I guess. RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - Punatic007 - 02-10-2016 Banana, that must have been wild. Outing the guy on facebook, he stops posting and starts shooting, gets shot and died. Wow, I'd still be shocked but would want to know the details of the shooting. Was that the last straw or were the cops already surrounding him, or both? RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - TomK - 02-10-2016 Pahoated complained: "Nothing has changed except validation. So many people come here and complain, complain, complain, why isn't this Illinois, or why isn't this Michigan, or why isn't this California, or why isn't this Arizona." I have never heard anyone complain about the things you say they do, instead I see you complain, complain, complain. You're not going to do it, I know, but how about providing evidence that people are complaining that this isn't Illinois, Michigan, California or Arizona? Nearly everyone I've talked to that moved here moved to Hawaii because they wanted to be part of the existing culture, not to change it. I can't help thinking you're back to making stuff up again. RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - birdmove - 02-10-2016 I never said the criminal was going to randomly shoot people. I said the criminal knows we are not armed when we are out in public, or driving our car, going foe a walk. Recently there were car thieves armed, threatening drivers and stealing the car they were driving. I believe it happened on North Kulani Road. I'm not advocating anything to anybody. What's legal in Hawaii to carry for protection? Pepper spray, and maybe a walking cane. A dog on a leash. It's awesome here. RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - kimo wires - 02-10-2016 Whoa Bananahead, I just saw the Facebook page Lafamilia Choppa. That's the guy alright. Its there for anyone to see. What a shame. He doesn't look all bad. In fact he looks pretty normal in a most of the pics. Really puts a face on this tragedy. Even though a life of petty crime snowballed into something extremely radical. Something pushed him over the edge. I would guess its Drugs. Its just so senseless. If the media wanted to get to other young people before they do something irreversible they should do a piece on him showing the softer side before they show the tough guy act mug shot. I didn't give a damn about this punk until I saw those pics. Look at the one of him holding the baby. Sad RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - VancouverIslander - 02-11-2016 kimo wires: good observation. Many people want to dehumanize criminals when really they are just people who have made a series of bad choices. If you knew them they wouldn't seem so bad (at least most of the time) Tom: I think Ted is referring to all the people who complain about Hawai'i gun laws and all the other things *some* (not all) new transplants often complain about that locals are more ok with. Just call me Mike RE: Cop shooting in Hilo 2 ...Tue Walmart parking lot - Kapoho Joe - 02-11-2016 quote: Mahalo for sharing your humanity. |
