RE: Kenoi not guilty - 2liveque - 11-02-2016

Billy is a phony. This is not the end. Word has it that the taxman cometh for Billy soon.

There is a whole other side of Billy Kenoi that people will give him a pass for. He is a punk who has been drunk on the mic on many occasions. He has gotten into scuffles....even broke the front teeth of some dude he headbutted after a night out drunk at a Hilo bar. This happened while he was already a public servant in the Kim administration. Billy is all of this -- but he is also smart enough to weasel his way out of anything. He has been this way his entire life. He won't change. On top of it all, he has a drinking problem. He does not "have a few." Billy gets drunk. Pissy drunk at times.

But I tell you what, this man can get some votes and he can win elections. I don't know for how much longer, but he has been able to pull it out in the past. I for one dont' think he will run for office again. I don't think he wants to go through a campaign where he will constantly have to defend himself every step of the way. There is a sizeable part of Hawaii who can't stand him. Naturally, he will stay within the safe confines of Puna and Hilo where most of his fans and supporters reside.

For the win...

What is the name of the contracting company that will offer him a job?

Actually, I did some research, and Kenoi's worst polling areas in both his mayoral election victories were Puna and Hilo. I'm not saying that he does't have fans here on the east side, but he doesn't do well in elections here where folks know him best.

In that second election, it took a surge of Kona side votes to get him past the unfunded Harry Kim by a fairly narrow margin of about 2%. The blank votes in that second election were greater than Kenoi's margin of victory, meaning that less than half of the votes cast went for him. That does not sound like resounding popularity to me.

The thuggish and drunken behavior 2liveque describes is well known but had not been widely described in the press. And then there is the matter of Kenoi's appearance a few years back at a benefit for a guy serving life without parole for an Oahu gang-style murder. I seem to recall Kenoi having hired reporters to work as his aides more than once. One has to wonder about that. Anyway, something tells me the Honolulu press would not ignore such tasty material should Kenoi run for higher office. The number of skeletons in the Kenoi closet might be more than even we cynics suspect.

Having said all that, Kenoi's ego is so huge that I wouldn't put another run for office past him. Much stranger things have happened.

Nope, he'll go work for some high profile non profit or quasi official body like the tourism board, AFTER a high profile entry into rehab and an apology tour where he goes to schools and talks up the danger of alcohol and drugs and how it almost cost him everything. Then, after a discrete interval has passed, he will run for office as the redeemed favorite son who learned from his mistakes and can relate to those who have let their worse natures get the better of them.

30000 or so hits on the Ohia subject, 20000 and more on the telescope, barely a thousand on Kenoi...welcome to the Big Banana Republic of Hawaii, or as we are so fond of saying...another day in "paradise"

Old news is not interesting?

This is a very recent thread. What about "Kenoi wants off on a technicality"? Over 14,000 hits.

Now that Kenoi is "not guilty", the ethics investigation can proceed:

http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/news/local-news/county-ethics-panel-hear-kenoi-complaint-0

The board previously deferred the matter due to concern that any decision could impact the mayor's theft trial.

But even if the board finds Kenoi violated the county's ethics code, it's unlikely the mayor, who leaves office in December, would face any serious repercussions

Good thing we have the court system and an ethics board, I would hate to see any misdeeds go unpunished.

It's a sad day in paradise when it becomes blatantly apparent to the world that a significant percentage of the citizenry of the Big Isle do not have functioning moral compasses. First the appalling TMT debacle and now the sticky finger mayor walks. Losers rule!

It's not often I see a letter to the editor in the Trib that makes much sense, but this one is superb, at least in my opinion. Some of it goes off into territory I think might be better avoided, but the message is very clear.
