RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - kalakoa - 02-08-2018 Perhaps the new Malama Market will include a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I also suspect there will be some parking spaces with EV charging... RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - Kapoho Joe - 02-08-2018 I never understood the allure of fast food style caffeine. Sirius does the trick for me! RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - SBH - 08-08-2018 I spend my coffee dollars on coffee grown in Hawaiian Acres... http://sharkyscoffee.com/ quote: I was going to reply to this here... http://punaweb.org/Forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25285&whichpage=2 but to stay on topic I’ll reply here ... With no decent places to eat in Keaau, I would definately go to Pahoa more often as an alternative to driving all the way to Hilo for a good restaurant and I’ll bet many others will too. http://www.punakaihawaii.com/ I’ve been looking forward to Umeke’s Fish Market, Bar & Grill which wasn’t mentioned in that article. http://www.umekesrestaurants.com/ Island Naturals should move into the current Malama Market when Puna Kai opens. RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - kalakoa - 08-08-2018 would definately go to Pahoa more often as an alternative to driving all the way to Hilo for a good restaurant Only problem with this: there's nothing else in Pahoa -- I can't amorize the travel by stopping at Walmart and/or Home Depot. Island Naturals should move into the current Malama Market when Puna Kai opens. ....then Kaleo's can move into the old Island Naturals. RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - Chunkster - 08-08-2018 Does the old Island Naturals have a urinal? If not, it could take a couple of years to get a permit and install one, based on Luquin's experience. RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - kalakoa - 08-08-2018 it could take a couple of years to get a permit and install one Only because Sal isn't a Senator... Besides, didn't Kim promise to "do what is best for the people of this island" so we can "stimulate economic development through tourism"? RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - kalakoa - 08-08-2018 How about those dangerous side walks on the makai side of town??? "Grandfathered", just like "bar without urinal". RE: Puna Kai shopping center: this time for sure - Punaperson - 08-08-2018 Kalakoa: "Only problem with this: there's nothing else in Pahoa -- I can't amorize (sp) the travel by stopping at Walmart and/or Home Depot." Perhaps not to those big box stores, but many of us could run lots of errands in Pahoa before the eruption, and still do (and avoid the trip to Hilo): - on the way into town ( from OLE) I get propane, water, and make a trash run - in town, I get food ( Malama or Island Natch, depending on the sales ), swing by Ace Hardware or NAPA, go to the Credit Union/Bank, get gas ( usually cheaper than Hilo ), pick up books at the library, go to the post office, and hopefully soon again, go to the pool. I, for one, am looking forward to having new restaurants, and a bigger supermarket. ( Personally, I hope the old Malama becomes a bigger Ace Hardware, with an expanded lumber section.). And if the rumor of Dunkin' Donuts becomes reality, I expect to gain more than a few pounds from their raspberry jam crullers.
